McWhlrter, chairman of the board of the department of home and education of the Woman’s Department Club, was re-elected at the meeting of the department in the clubhouse yesterday afternoon. The remainder of the board, including Mrs. Austin F. Denny, vice chairman; Mrs. W. W. Thornton, secretary, and Mrs. A. S. Ayres, treasurer, were also re-elected. Public observance of holidays wag discussed by the body, Mrs. McWhlrter talking briefly on Americanism. The section decided to appoint n delegate to recommend to the board of the Woman’s Department Club that action to cooperate in such observance be takpn. Following the business meeting the mock Senate held a session. Germam paopagauda was the subject of heated discussion, with particular emphasis on German-made movie films and German immigration. A bill prohibiting merchandise from countries with which we are at war from entering or boing distributed in this country for a period of five years following the conclusion of the war was introduced by Mrs. R. E. Wilson. The “Senate" continued discussion of the bill depriving American women of citizenship on tnarraige with foreign-born men. The street railway bill, providing for the surrender of the existing franchise of the company, the railway to be operated under the public service commission, was
defeated. Mrs. J. C. Hart, chairman of the committee to Investigate the poorly lighted street conditions of the city, reported that the board of works stated that such conditions were due to lack of funds, the park board maintaining a separate fund for boulevard lights. The body decided after hearing the report to continue with the Investigation, as dimly lighted streets are a moral menace to a city. , The last meeting of the senate for this season will be held April 5.
