Clarence A. Frye Dies at Battle Creek, Mich. Following an Illness of sev*ral weeks, Clarence A. Frye, 44 years old, 31X0 North Illinois street, died at the Battle Creek Sanitarlnm, Battle Creek, Mich., yesterday. Mr. Frye was sales director of the Baker-Shook Company of this city, dealers In stocks and bonds. He is survived by his widow, three children. Lawrence, Cecile and Albert, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Frye of Brooklyn, Ind. The body will be brought to Indianapolis tomorrow for burial. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. Former City Clerk of Rushville Sentenced Special to The Times. RUSHVILLE, Ind., March 16. Carl L. .Gunning, 31, former city clerk, entered a plea of guilty this morning to a charge of embezzlement, returned in a grand Jury Indictment and was fined SSOO and sentenced from two to fourteen years in the State Prison. Gunning’s Indictment was brought about by the Charles E. Francis Company, it being charged that he had taken $8,986 of the funds while working for the company. Gunning moved from here two months ago and lived in Indianapolis when arrested and brought here for trial.

$1,225 ROBBERY LEAVES MYSTERY Daylight Burglar Worlts Quickly at Walter Pfaff Home. Detectives today have no clew to the identity of a burglar who entered the home of Walter Pfaff, 8 Balmoral Court, 3055 North Meridian street, yesterday, and carried away jewelry and money of the total value of $1,225.50. A maid left the apartment with the children at 2:20 p. m. Mrs. Pfaff reached the apartment twenty minutes later. Police records show the department was notified of the robbery at 4:50 p. m. The Pfaffs believe the thief used a skeleton key. Motor Policeman Lansing reported he believed the burglar entered by walking along a ledge and climbing into a window, saying he found marks indicating that was the method of gaining entrance. Mrs. Pfaff reported the loss of a diamond ring valued at $425, a ring set witn two pearls and three diamonds worth S2OO, a string of imitation pearls worth $25, a wrist watch valued at S4O and a diamond ring worth $45. The thief also took a necklace set with five diamonds worth S2OO, a sapphire ring valued at S4O, a wrist watch worth $39.50 and sll cash belonging to Miss Ruth Holland, the maid, according to her report. A burglar entered the home of Margarette Lyons, 720 North Illinois street, early this morning and stole $12.50. A. C. Tanner's residence, 620 West Michigan street, was entered by a burglar, but nothing was taken. Fortune Seekers Are Halted by Policeman Five young men on their way from Ohio to the oil fields of Texas to make their fortunes were arrested at Prospect street and Keystone avenue early this morning by Patrolman Fleming, who charged them with vagrancy. They gave the names of Ward Pfautz, 23. Bradford, Ohio; Harold Arnold, 18; Ronald Johnson, 19; Arthur Meyer, 18, and Carl Smith, 18, Toronto, Ohio. Four of the jnen did not have any money, but the nfth had $29 hidden in tbs toe of a shoe. Editor Finds Pot of Gold; Will Retire Special to The Times. LA PORTE. Ind , May 16—Victor H Kirk, city editor of the La Porte Argus, is today preparing to retire from the newspaper business following the receipt of an offer of $50,000 for two lots which he purchased many years ago near the present site of the city of Tulsa, Okla. Kirk had several times concluded to let the lots go at a tax sale, but had never relinquished his ownership. He purchased the property for a few dollars. TIPTON DEMOCRATS ORGANIZE.
