BOUGHTON TO GIVE PROGRAM Recital of Artist Piano Teacher Announced . * Willoughby Boughton who recently hag lecepted the position of artist piano leather at the College of Music and Fine Lite, will give a public recital at the All tools’ Unitarian <Chnrch on Friday eveling, March 18. Mr. Boughton is an American artist rbo has had the advantage of several rears of foreign study. Ills father, who tas an editor of a large city daily. Intended that his son should follow the leme profession. While pursuing the ttndy of journalism in the University of Michigan young Boughton attracted the tttention of a pianist who insisted that N abandon the idea of journalism and take up the serious study of music. Mr. Boughton went to Europe and betaine a pupil of Lehvlnne. Returning to America, he divided his time between leaching and concert work. lie has been t teacher at Washburn College, Drake and Ohio Weselyn I'nivcrsity. most of this time ho was asscoi■P with Horace Whitehouse who lately PR's assumed the office of vice president |nd musical director of the College of Music and Fine Arts. Mrs. Kate Foppiano has returned to the home of her son, Joseph Foppiano, to this city after an eight months’ stay With her daughter, Mrs. C. W. Guym, In California. Denny, 525 East Forty-Ninth Street, has returned home. • • Mrs. Charles Stanner, 218 Wisconsin street, was hostess this afternoon for a meeting of the D. T. H. Club. St. Patrick’s colors were used for table decorations and favors. The rooms were beautifully decorated with spring flowers. Those present were: Mrs. Thurman Sommers. Mrs. Ernest Mowwe, Mrs. Charles Koerner, Mrs. John Hyman, Mrs. Charles Galm, Mrs. Charles Wiese, Mrs. Carl Stammer and Mrs. Henry Schilling, with Miss Helen Galm and Miss Mary Koehrner as guests. Gas Discovered in Old Water Well Special to Th Times. COLUMBUS, Ind., March 11.—Gas has been discovered In an old water well on tlie farm of Mrs. Linnle Strietelineier, five miles north of this city. The gas came from the well In considerable quantities and when ignited burns In- a flame several feet In height for more than an hour. The well was drilled about ten years ago to a depth of HO feet, but the water was found unfit for use. Raymond and Herbert Strietelmeler had pumped several buckets of water from the well, after which they heard a noise similar to water boiling violently in the well. The boys, smelling gas, held a lighted match to the pump. The gas ignited with a loud explosion and burned with nndlinlnlshed _ptAngth until extinguished.

NORTH VERNON, Ind., March 11.— Options have been obtained on more than 150 acres of land between this city and Vernon, which will be turned over to the State for a park. Nineteen acres have been donated and the remainder is to be purchased with funds raised by popular subscription. A committee composed of O. R. Platter. Moses Gurnble and Fred C. Lockwood will meet with a committee from Vernon to complete plans for a eounty-wids mass meeting, at which money will be raised for the purchase. William Guthrie and Richard Leiber, members of the State conservation commission. and Governor McCray are expected to be present at the meeting. The land selected for the park Is notable for its scenic beauty and Its location along the north and south market highway.
