SKELBYVILLE, Ind., March 11.—When Instructors and students arrived at the RUelbyvllle High School today to take up their regular work they found the auditorium aud rooms of the building littered with books thrown about in all directions, stacked In corners and on desks and the loose leaves of many bookß scattered about the corridors, the result of a visit of “book stackers" during the night. The school authorities have called upon the city officials to assist In the Investigation of the affair, which has caused considerable damage and also held up classes throughout the day. The stacking of books at the high school had Its beginning during the school term last year when the Incident occurred several times, the school officials never being able to capture the vandals. It required most of the morning for the students to recover their books and belongings.

SHELBY V TELE—Mrs. Minnie Belle Hill. 62, wife of George Franklin Hill, is dead at her home, south of here, from blood poisoning following an attack of Influenza a year ago. Surviving with the husband are three sons, William Verna, James and Lawrence of this county and one daughter, Mrs. Stella Hill. There are also three brothers, Edam, Clarence and Jefferson Lovett of this county. MARION—Miss Hattie Buchanan, 73. born In Marlon aha one of the city's best known women, is dead here, following several weeks' illness. Sha was a sister of the late James Buchanan and was associated with the early history of the city. She was a brilliant woman and took an active Interest In club and literary work. EVANSVILLE—James Clay, negro, city fireman at No. 9 firehouse, fell dead Thursday while fighting a fire that originated in a stable. As he stooped to pick up a hose he feJl over unconscious and when his companions reached him he was dead. DANVILLE—Mrs. Ella Pentecost Nichols, 60, wife of James W. Scott, a young farmer living south of this city, Is under Indictment by a Huntington grand Jury on a charge of blackmailing Frank Walters, who lives near Markle. Tbe Indictment Is based on a letter received Feb. 16 by Walters, which is said to have contained a demand that he place ten *IOO bills between two flat stones at a place designated Just soutlf of Markle. A threat was added that unless Walters compiled his hou'-e and family would be blown np. Walters pretended to fill tbe conditions demanded in the letter and an automobile driven by a girl, said to answer tbe description of a daughter of Scott, drove to the stones and obtained the envelope. Two termers were on guard at tbe time and obtained the license nnmber, which resulted in the grand Jury Indictment.
