BARB GETS FINE AND FARM TERM Convicted on Tiger Charge After Case Is Continued Twelve Times. John Barb, 34, 236 Hanson avenue, arrested Sept. 16, 1920, after twelve continuances was found guilty In city court late yesterday of operating a blind tiger and was fined S2OO and costs and sentenced to serve sixty days on the Indiana State Farm by Judge Walter Pritchard. Barb was arrested by Patrolmen Feeney and Marlett in the 700 block on Haujjh street, where he was walking In the Opposite direction from his home and carrying a coffee sack. On investigation the officers found rtwo glass Jugs In the sack and each Jug contained a gallon of "white mule’’ whisky. One might say that a black cat crossed the path of John Barb sometime in the last six months. He has been arrested three times for operating a blind tiger within that time, twice fined, and one case la pending against him in city court. City clerk's records show that Barb was convicted on Sept. 21, 1920, of operating a blind tiger. He was fined SIOO and costs and sentenced to serve sixty days on the farm. The case was appealed and the appeal bond was signed by Sam Luper. On Nov. 26 the appeal was withdrawn and Barb was committed to the farm. He said he served the days and the records of the city clerk show that the fine was paid. Barb said he was released from the farm Jan. 24. While Barb was out on the appeal bond be was again arrested. The rcorde show he was brought into the city court Xov. 6, 1920, to answer a charge of operating a blind tiger. The case was continued twelve times and the last continuance was set for yesterday, when he was fined S2OO and costs and sentenced to serve sixty days on the farm. On Feb. 10, 1921, seventeen days after he was released from the Penal Farm, Barb again was arrested on a charge of operating a blind tiger. Sergeant Baker and Sergeant Cliff Richter went to Bart’s home and found four quarts of “white mule” whisky which was hidden in a basket in a closet. Barb told the police at that time that he had Just brought the liquor for $lO. This case was heard in city court yesterday morning by Judge Pritchard and was taken under advisement until the morning of Feb, 18, pending the arrival of another wit* ness. CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY. SHELBYVILLE, Ind., Feb. 17.—G. W. F. Kirk celebrated his eighty-fourth birthday Wednesday by holding a public reception at the 6ffice of the Building and Losd Association, of which he is a director.
