RESCUE MISSION TO HOLD JUBILEE Closing of Successful Year Will Be Celebrated. Evangelists of national prominence will be brought to the Wheeler City Rescue Mission (luring the year, according to the announcement of A. C. Pope, superintendent. A jubilee service will be held Sunday In celebration (of the closing of the most successful year In the history of the mission. Speakers will include: George W. Sorehelde. superintendent of the City Rescue Mission of Cleveland, Ohio: E. C. Clark of Buffalo, N. Y.; Edwar4 Burqulst of Newcastle, Pa., and John Tan Ess of Youngstown, Ohio. Musical numbers will be given by the Broadway M. E. Church orchestra, the mission choir of fifty voices and the mission women’s quartette. Mr. Pope said the mission had outstanding debts. He took over the work of the mission at the death of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Nipper last September, when they were killed In an automobile accident. He Is assisted by Joseph Ooverdent. He Is assisted by Joseph OverInstitute. The mission was started by Mr. Nipper a few years ago in a storeroom on East Washington street.
Demands Rail Report on Farmed Out Work WASHINGTON. .Tan. 2.—The Interstate Commerce Commission today inaugurated an investigation of charges made by machinists’ organizations that railroads are having repair work done in outside shops at high costs. It was intimated in the charges that railroad officials held financial Interests In the outside shops. The commission ordered all railroads to submit a complete report, under oath, not later than March 1, showing the character, amount and cost of work done in outside shops. BUDGET SYSTEM BILL UNDER WAY Senator Ratts Drafting Administration Measure. The bill providing for a budget system among State officials an 4 Institutions is being drafted by Senator Oscar Ratts of Paoll, Republican floor leader In the Senate, it was learned today. It is probable, according to Information, that the administration of the law will be placed under one of flip State departments, possibly the Treasurer or Auditor of State, and that anew office will not be created. ".he State Board of Accounts will be given duties under the proposed statute and those operatives who are assigned to the work will be known as the auditing committee. The bill is one of the platform pledges of Governor Warren T. McCray and he is cooperating with Senator Batts in drawing the meas ire. The Governor sent a personal committee, of which Senator Ratts was a member, to other States to investigate budget systems. The State board of agriculture conferred with Governor McCray today over the details of the bill by which the board will be taken over by the State. Representative Murry S. Barker of Boone

RUDE BURGLAR AWAKENS MAN Makes Hurried Exit, but Not Without Plunder. A burglar was rude enough last night to make so much noise climbing a stairway that It awakened Charles Hilderbrand, 1408 Brookslde avenue. The prowler got to the top of the stairway when Hilderbrand saw his flashlight, then demanded: “What are you doing here?” In less than one second the burglar bad descended the stairs and was sprinting through the front doorway. Hilderbrand said the man had stolen a gold chain, a bar pin and other jewelry of a total value of $35. J. L. Alexander, 1030 Division street, reported his home had been ransacked and a cameo ring worth $25 stolen. H. O. Scherglns, 14(50 North Pennsylvania street, found the glass broken from the door of his'home and the house ransacked. Three pairs of silk stockings and an overcoat were missing. Ike Trumble, 1821 Pearson avenue, reported that a thief stole an overcoat from his home. Oliver Dern.v, 234 East New York street, told the police his room had been entered and clothing valued at S7O taken. Kenneth Herron, 315 Koehne street, reported that bis overcoat, gloves and fountain pen were stolen from the office of the Cartersburg Water Company on Ft. Wayne avenue. John A. Henry, 514 Warren avenue, said a burglar had visited each room of his house, but was unable to tell what was missing. R. J. Clark, 115 West Nineteenth street, reported a burglar took a suitcase, suit of clothes and a revolver from his home.
Committee in Doubt on School Levy Bill Members of the House Ways and Means Committee last night discussed the bill providing for a common school levy of !20 cents on each SIOO, but reached no 1 decision. The measure would increase , the levy from 5.0 cents, as at present. Representatives of the wealthy counties opposed that provision of the bill, which would base the distribution of the fund on school attendance and number of teachers. They contended that the poor counties would not profit by this method. New Rioting in India LONDON, Jan. 26—A new outbreak of rioting in the Indian provinces of Oudh and Agra, In which po.icemen were killed, was reported In a dispatch from Allahabad today. A detachment of policemen who had been detailed to preserve order was at tacked by a mob.
