' Indiana judges, and especially Marion County Judges, receive smaller salaries than in almost any locality, according to figures which have been prepared. Marlon County judges, with the exception of the judge of the juvenile court, receive $5,000 annually. The judge of the Juvenile court receives $4,000. Figures for other cities follow: Cincinnati, Superior, $0,000; Cleveland. Common Pleas. $8,500; Dayton, Common Pleas, $.8,100; Hamilton, Ohio. Common Pleas, $0,600; Detroit. Circuit, $8,500; Ann Arbor, Circuit, $0,000; Kalamaaoo, Circuit, $5,000; St. Louis, Circuit. $8,000; Chicago. Circuit, $12,000; Chicago, Criminal, $12,000: Chicago. arles. PHF.SENT ADDITION MADE IN 1893. The preaent addition of SISOO from the treasury of Marion County to the salary paid by the State to the Circuit and Superior Judges was authorized in 1803. when Marion County had a population of a little more than 110.000. That population had increased in 1010 to 265,000, and if the same ratio of increase been maintained as in the three Preceding decades, now exceed* 340.000. H Kalamazoo, in a county that had a Hojtalation of 60,000 in 1010, is the only in the list that makes us small to aid the Judges’ as is made in Marion County. The, statutes of New York and Ohio authorize the cities of New Y'ork and Cincinnati and the counties of Brooklyn and r her parts of Greater New York to add to the salary paid to the Judges of the State whatever amount they deem Just and proper without any limit upon the maximum amount to be paid, and only In Cincinnati does the statute fix a minnlmum, by providing that the amount paid shall be “not less than $2,000 annually."
