Bulging pockets were tn style at the special show at the Isis Theater this training for youngsters, the price of admV*,OD beta? something In the way of The receipts of the "box office Window" will be turned ever to the Saltation Army by the management of the house, which conducted this special show from 9 to 11 this morning. Long before 11 o’clock the big box In front of the ticket office whs filled to the top with all kinds of fruit, several bushels of potatoea and a number of pleoes of wearing apparel and a collection of canned goodr. Evidently the magnitude of the contribntion had something to do with on hoy’s confidence. The proud possessor of a prise potato swaggered up to the box, demanding, in a commanding air, "where can I pay'" while the owner of a bnllet-alsed apple crept cautiously toward the box and cast his donation with a back sleight of hand movement. The show was conducted very successfully with the exception of interspersed itst-fights over a certain desirable seat. Long before the magic hour of 9 all the seats "up front" were reserved by their tenants, and insistent demands for it io "begin” lent atmosphere to an otherwise noisy audience. Fatty Arbuckle la still retaining hla of comedy If his audlenco this morning was any authority upon the subject. Howls of delight greeted hi* appearance on the screen, and heartless chuckles met his unfortunate move*. Second on the reel, bnt not second In “raising the laughs,” came Mack Sennett. TIPTON WATER RATES BOOSTED. Water and electric rates In Tipton have been increased by an order of the Public Service Commission, electric power rates being increased to a scale graduated frem 10 to 6 cents, and water rates Increased to a graduated scale of from 7 to 3 cents. The city was advised to begin an expert investigation of the electric and water departments.

ment for its handling. This department occupies most of the space used for the entire parcel post service in ordinary times. While the regular carriers and the special delivery force, the latter working Svith extra men and twelve light motor, trucks, in addition to the fleet of regular motorcycle side-cars, are handling these classes of mall, the tegular parcel post matter Is loaded into big trucks and rushed to ths old postoffice garage, at the Intersection of the alleys between New York and Vermont. Meridian and Illinois streets. This building has been equipped specially with racks and shelves for handling the present pockage rush. Here a dozen men aslae the sacks and start sorting th,e packages. The mail is divided into sacks for each of the substations and that for the district ordinarily served directly from the downtown office Is put \n small trucks. As fast as a load of sacks for any of the substations accumulates motor trucks start out. At the substations the parcels are again divided and placed In trucks for various sections of the district served by the particular station. The Brightwood station is operating with two trucks, the East Tenth with four, Station A with ten, Irvington with five, Fountain Sqnare with five, West Indianapolis with two, and Haughville with two. More may be turned over to some of these stations before Christmas day. The parcels for the central district *r divided into twenty-five sections, each of which is served by a separate truck. As fast as ono of these trucks can deliver a load it is rushed back for another consignment. The speed with which this system operates is indicated by the fact that the night and day accumulation practically was delivered yesterday before 4 o'clock in the afternoon, rostmsster Springsteen is prepared to have additional men 1 end trucks swung Into service If the rush becomes heavies, to maintain this same speed. The collection of Christmas mall is on a par with the delivery. As fast as the fat pouches are brought in from the substations and downtown department stores, they are opened at the central office, and sorted Into other pouches marked for the different cities or railway mall service gateways, so or through which they are addressed. These pouches are then all ready to rush to the Union Station and
Hardings to Turn Deaf Ear to All Visitors Xmas Eve
MARION, Ohio, Dec. 23.—Ansloue office seekers, prospective Cabinet members and even "best mind*’’ wilt not be wanted at 380 Mt. Vernon avonoe tomorrow night. PresKientotect and Mrs. Harding have arranged not to hear the door bell until it is rung by a certain one of the nation's leading citlsens, none other than the well known Mr. Santa Claus. Express drftys have been unloading dosen* of odd-shaped packages and mysterious looking boxes at the Harding back door for several days. Inez, the Harding cook, declared she never saw anything llkTKlt down in "Vlrginny." The gifts include almost everything human imagination can think of from small pieces of personal Jewelry to large crated turkeys. But, aside from this, the Hardings expect a simple quiet Christmas, much like that which thousands of families will observe in small towns all over the United States.
load on the mail cars, requiring a minimum of handling by ihe railway mail service clerks. The regular carriers are so loaded with extra first-class mail and small parcels that many of them will be able to make only one delivery a day the remainder of this week, it is said. The carriers keep the accumulation cleaned up each day by handling extra heavy loads on the one delivery. Mail trains ce© loaded to capacity. It is believed before the rush is over the prediction of Washington postal authorities that this year's business is not as heavy as last year’s will have been upset, according to Mr. Rogers and Mr. Webster. The fifteenth division. In charge of Mr. Rogers, comprises all the mall trains and railway mall service terminals on the Pennsylvania rsllrosd between Pittsburgh and St. Louis. This division is one of the most important in the country, handling a great part of the mall going from coast to coast and Important inland points not so distant. “I can't recall a Christmas when our program has worked out more smoothly,” said Mr. Rogers. “The trains practically are all on time and I think they will stay

so unless storms or some other unforscen difficulties arise.” The near completion of the track elevation at the Unite Station has helped to eliminate the possibilities of congestion at that point, he said. With the system In vogue there has not been an accumulation of mail sacks at the station at any time. Last year the practice of loading extra mail cars In advance at the station, so they would be ready to put into mall trains as soon as they arrived Instead of waiting nntil the trains arrived and then loading cars already in the trains, was begun. This year the plan has been improved so that practically no trains are delayed in passing through Indianapolis. The same plau is being used all over the country. It Is one of the biggest factors In atoiding congestion, railway mail service men Eny. The cars leaded In advance are filled only with mail going to the principle gateway cities. Throughout the present rush the railway mail service has. been leading ami dispatching dally one such car for the Chicago gateway, two for the St. Louis gateway, two for the Pittsburgh gateway and one for the Cincinnati gateway. Mail destined for points between Indianapolis and these cities ami to points on other divisions is loaded directly into the trains as they arrive at the station. Mr. Webster’s division, the fifth, comprises the Big Four divisions between Clevelsnd and St. Louis, and Springfield, Ohio, and Peoria, 111.; the C., I. & W. from Indianapolis to Springfield, 111., and the Lake Erie from Indianapolis to Michigan City, Favorable conditions prevail on all these lines, he said.
