‘MA f MANN WEEPS REAL TEARS When Acting Mother Roles on the Screen
ThU Is the era of screen mothers. When Margaret Mann took the sole of the mother in "Heart of Humanity,” the Universal war picture, she inaugurated anew epoch in acreen history. Up to that time characters in film plays had been pushed into the background. But Mra. Mann’s remarkable characterisations and emotional talent appealed so strongly to the public that she was one of the chief attractions of “Heart of Humanity.” Her tears are the real article. Now the original screen mother Is scoring another hit in a similar role In "Once to Every Woman,” the I niversalJewel, starring Dorothy Phillips. Several scenes in this picture in which Mrs. Mann features, are declared by critics to he the “most touching ever filmed.” Mrs. Mann came to this country from Scotland ala years ago and started her American screen career at Universal City. -I- -I- -!- OX VIEW TODAY. Argentine Province Riddled by Locusts BUENOS AIRES. Dec. 17.—A plague of locuata, like that which In ancient Egypt “covered the face of the earth,” thla year descended upon the province of Santa Fe. Similar offensives are almost annual events la one part or another of Argentina. The locusts come suddenly and without warning. Where for a year or several years perhaps not one of the Insects has been seen, a veritable cloud of them will one day appear and settle on the ground. At first little damage Is done, but as they progress through the country they bore holes Into the earth, Into which they deposit their eggs. Within a short time the larva are hatched and come forth. At first these cannot fly, and It la at this stage that they devour every living plan-t within their path, with the
