IS, transformed within a moment from a lively, aunny girl, to a disappointed woman, was dead today. Police and coroner’* official* pronounced It suicide. The girl's sister, Mrs. J. T. Talbert, widow of a banker, declared It an accident. The girl turned from a telephone conversation last night with a man whoso name has ftot been learned, dashed to her own room and slammed the door. A moment later a shot, described by her slater as “deafening.” was heard. Betsy was found lying across her bed, a crimson stain slowly spreading through the white texture. The slater was reticent. Betsy, she said, waa born In Richmond, Ky., but came to live with her when J. T. Talbert, the sister's husband, died last May In rasadena, Cal. Despite the wealthy society Into which she was Introduced here, life seemed to pall on the girl. Ten days ago she met a young man who seemed to fill her mind. She wna happier than her sister recalled seeing her before. Last night she was especially gay, thuramlng tho piano and playing lively airs on the phonograph. Then the telephone bell Intruded and there waa brief conversation, the Joyous timbre of tho girl’s voice fading as she spoke briefly. Mrs. Talbert said she did not know the young man and sconted the theory that the unhappy conversation had caused the girl to take her life. The girl was strangled and beaten before her screams brought neighbors to her assistance.
