TRY PERSUASION ON D’ANNUNZIO Committee to Ask Poet to Renounce War. MILAN, Dec. 3.—A parliamentary committee has gone from Rome to Fiume to attempt to persuade Gabriele D'Annunzio to renounce his declaration of war against Italy. This committee was empowered to enter into “pence negotiations” with and Annunzio in an effort to induce him to cease resistance against the government troops and the fleet blockading Flume. Warlike preparations have continued at Flume for forty-eight hours. D'Annunaio’s declaration of war against Italy, unless the Italian government backed down, was to be effective today. According to press advices from Rome an enormous majority of the people deman “an honorable surernder.” MOVE TO GUARD SENATE AGAINST CABINET DRAFT (Continued From Page One.) lieTe It will effectually set at rest the charges hurled all over the country during the campaign of a “senatorial oligarchy" running the executive as well as the legislative branches of the Government in case Harding was elected. Os all the names of Cabinet possibilities that have been mentioned since Nov. 2, there are only two Which are considered in Washington virtually* certain of appointment. These are ex-Senator George W. Sutherland of Utah and ex-Senator John W. Weeks of Massachusetts.- Only the posts to which they will be appointed remain in doubt, according to Harding’s friends beret. s _ Senator James E. Watson of Indiana went to Philadelphia to confer with Senator Penrose, ostensibly over financial legislation. Daugherty will leave Washington tonight for Norfolk, where he will meet Senator Harding on his arrival from Panama. Edward B. McLean and Senator Davis Elkins of West Virginia will also go to the port to welcome the Harding party. The grand Jury still is in session and has returned a few more or less unimportant indictments. Then there were rumors that officials—meaning city officials—would be Indicted. There Is no particular Indication that this will be done, however. Immediately after the opening of the Investigation Prosecuting Attorney Freeman began the submission of evidence.
