FACTIONS CHORTLING AT ACES IN HOLE ■ Each Believes It Has the Trick to Swing City Control. - \ While the Jewett-Lemcke wing of the Republican party in Marion County is planning to clinch its hold on the organization for the city campaign next year through a gerrymandering move, the anti-Jewett faction is preparing to block them. The Jewett-Lemeke crowd has been quietly laughing up its sleeve at the asrertlons of the antis that they are going to seize the city organization when the new city chairman is named in the spring because they have had this gerrymander in reserve. The antis are laughing Just ss heartily, and as quietly, at the administration outerbecause it must depend on the antis to put through the gerrymander, if it la put through at nil. The antis have no intention of falling into the trap. Realizing only too well the strength of the anti movement, the Jewett-Lemeke leaders cast about for means of lncreafr ing the number of precinct committeemen who will be loyal to them in the election

The Jewett-Lemeke control was almost broken last spring when the Marion County Republican committee was reorganized and Dr. E. E. Hodgln nearly defeated Harry Hendrickson, the present county chairman. Dr. Hodgln Is still one of the anti leaders. The antis have been working steadily toward victory in the city reorganization ever since that time, not even letting up during the recent presidential campaign when they kept their ranks Intact through the Harding Club, which had headquarters at the Hotel English. The only way the antis can be successfully coped with this time, the administration faction is said to believe, is to Increase the number of precincts in Indianapolis knd thereby the number of precinct committeeman. The present city chairman has the power to choose the committeemen to represent any new precincts created within his Jurisdiction during his term. The administration claims that many of the present precincts must be split 4n two because of the congestion due to the women voting, as was noted in the presidential election. Tho city council Is the body which must change the precinct boundary lines. The antis have a majority in the council. What the council is likely to do with any ordinance for this purpose sent to them by the administration forces, Is best expressed by President G. G. Schmidt, himself the chief opponent of Mayor Jewett In the legislative body. "Just let them send up such a measure and see what we do to It," Mr. Schmidt stated.
