ANDERSON, Ind., Not. 20. —Madeline Stewart and Iva Landess. arrested as accomplices In the attempted hold-up of the proprietor* of the Mullen Brothers Grocery Store, have made written confessions, the police say, in which they shed light on the mysterious murder of Roy Brown, near Red Key, four years ago. Although the nature of the statements are not divulged, it is said the tacts of the reputed confession may clear up the murder. . Brown’s body was found In a Held adjoining the farm on which Thun Stewart husband of the Stewart woman and a brother of Mrs. Landess, resided. Stewart died of bullet wounds he sustained during the alleged hold-up of the Mullen grocery. The two women were released from custody under bond of SSOO each, Thursday. Their confession, it Is said, in addition to giving the information that is expected to clear np the murder mystery, told of their escarades which resulted In the fatal wounding of Stewart, and It was said Implicated Elva Landess. who Is In jail here. Landess is said to have denied that he had any part In the hold-up and named another man who, he said, accompanied Stewart into the grocery store. Both women denied the robbery was contemplated when the anto In which they came here from Muneie was stopped at the Mullen store.
