TRACK ELEVATION COST RUNS HIGHER Estimated Cost of Job Now Put at $6,000,000. With the completion by the end of next year of the track elevation project ;n eight engineers have begun to make estimates of the total cost. Tentatively they place It at $6,000,000, according to John Elliott, assistant city civil engineer in charge of track elevation. The original estimate, made when work was started In 1913, was $4,000,000. Delays suffered when work was suspended for a time during the war and the Increased costs of labor and materials account for the $2,000,000 excess.

The cost would have been much greater ' had not William O. McAdoo, while director of railroads, on the representations of W. D. Boyce, owner of the Dally Times, not ordered the work to be continued during the last year of the war. The Improvement Is to be paid for by all of the raUroads. the Indianapolis Street Railway Company, Marlon County -and the city of Indianapolis. The cost to each will not be determined until after the work is completed. Each of the contracting parties have advanced sums for various parts of the work for which they will be compensated in the final settlement. Figures on the amount already ex- | pended by the parties other than the city are not readily available. Figures complied by Ross Techemeyer, in charge of records and pay rolls In the board of i public works office, show that the city
from 1913 to Sept. 1 of this year has paid out $1,533,836.98. Os this amount, *1,086,525.77 was expended for the Pogue's Run drain and $446,811.19 on actual track elevation. The city’s share of the Pogue’e Run Improvement actually Is only approximately $200,000, so that most of the million spent on this account will be repaid. Os the $440,811.19, $214,350.72 will be repaid by the other contracting parties, so that the total expense to the city so far Is estimated at approximately $500,00. The final total cost for the whole improvement to the city Is estimated at $900,000. JT7BT LITTLE LOAN, THAT’S ALL.
