COUNCIL BACKS MOTORIZATION Authorizes $400,000 Bond Issue to Provide Equipment. Bond Issues amounting to $400,000 were authorized and two contracts to provide equipment for the complete motoriaatloa of the Indianapolis lire department were approved by the city council in special session last night. A third contract wa* not approved because or clerical error la the bid. The contract with the Stntx Fire Engine Company of Indianapolis for eighteen 600-gallon pumper*, seven 750-gallon pumpers and ten hook and ladder truck* amounting to $321,781, and the contract with the Seagrave Company of Columbus, Ohio, for two tractors to replace the present horse-drawn apparatus for steamers, amounting to $13,500, were approved. Recommendations for the acceptance of the bid of the American-LaFrance Fire Engine Company, of Elmira, N. TANARUS., of $43,892.50 for two slxty-flve foot aerial ladder trucks and one elghty-flve foot aerial ladder truck was not approved. Clerical error in the bid Involving a few dollars prevented the approval, and the bid will not be acted upon until next Monday night at the regular session of the council. Gustav G. Schmidt, president of the council, said that the correction of the error would not affect the contract with the American-LaFrance Company. Dry Agents Consider New Ruling of Court WASHINGTON, Nov. 9.—The whisky fliod-gatos may be opened by the Su preme Court decision regarding whiskyheld in storage. Large stocks of th 30,000.000 gallons of whisky remaining In bonded warehouses may be released by this decision, it was stated today. Oe"* tirtcates showing the holdings of whisky in bonded warehouses, and an evidence of its ownership, are apparently vttaiiv affected. The court, in passing upon a New York case, did not deal specifically with the question of warehouse certificates. but its view was made plain that whisky owned and stored for personal use may bo withdrawn and moved by ihe owner at his option. Prohibition Commissioner Cramer and Internal Revenue Commissioner Williams are studying the decision with a view to determining its effects upon liquor stocks in bond. Work at Sunnyside ResumedkAfter Halt The purchase of approximately $30,000 worth of bonds, principally by .contractors is permitting the work to be completed on the power and heat plant at Sunnyside. For months the bonds were not sold and work ceased on the power plant because the bonds carried a low rate of interest. Superintendent Hatch stated today that sufficient funds have been obtained to complete the power plant by the first of the year. At present the old heating plant, which Is inadequate to heat the entire institution, Is being pressed Into servlco. As soon as the new heating plant l completed the new service building, with dining rooms and quarters for attendants will be ready for use. Superintendent Hatch stated that the coal supply is adequate at the present time.
