Children to Honor ‘Little Boy Blue* Poet CHICAGO, Nov. 5. —For a quarter of a century Chicago school children have been adding their pennies to the slowly growing fund for a monument in memory of Eugene. Field, the beloved children's poet. Yesterday, on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death here, announcement was mhde that the goal of *25,000 lmd been reached through the action of the trustees of the Art Institute, who agreed to add more than $15,000 to the $9,920.25 the children have collected. The monument will be erected In Lincoln Dark, where the poet loved to Idle. It is to stand near the animal house, where the children gather, facing the drive. The decision on the sculptor awaits the action of the trustees of the fund. The trustees have been negotiating with Johannes S. Gelett, who sculped the statues of Hans Christian Anderson and Beethoven in Lincoln Park and the Haymarket memorial in Union Park, and with Eugene McCarten. A model submitted by Gelert shows Field seated, pencil in hand, with one srm thrown over the hack of a large chair and a pad In the other hand, while below him is “Little Boy Blue” playing with his tin soldiers. The McCarten design shows the poet surrounded by Children, a fountain gushing below.
