near political RIOT BROKEN UP G. O. P. Crowd Tries to Parade Through Hotel. An attempt of Republicans to parade through the lobby of the Denison Hotel, where the Democratic county headquarters were located resulted In a small riot at 1 o'clock this morning. Not since the famous “Battle of le88." which occurred in front of the Denison Hotel, has the famous building witnessed a more exciting political battle than occurred early today. As the Republican parade carrying banners bearing Harding's picture started through the lobby some mau yelled, “Watson, Watson.’’ The bart.e was on aDd a man who evidently objected to the cry, grabbed a Harding banner and “crowned” F. H. Rodman, lt'36 Lexington avenue. J Brown. J- clerk at the hotel, sent tn a riot cal! to police headquarters and Serg< aat Johnson and a large squad of police responded. Hundreds of persons who had attended a late show at a nearby theater Joined the crowd. Dozens of would-be orators tried to speak, but the police made them move and in less than half an hour the lobby was empty and the street clear. “The Denison Hotel has seen many a political scrap,” declared an old-time pol>e officer today, “but the ono this morning was the best since 1888. “On that occasion the Republicans tried to parade on one side of Pennsylvania street and the Democrats tried to parade on the other and the street In front of the Den'son whs not wide enough for them and a fight started that required the efforts of almost the entire police department to settle." To Establish Chain of Groceries Here A chain of groceries consisting of one central market in a downtown building and ten branches in residential districts will be established.by the Servu Stores Corporation. It was announced today. The corporation has acquired ground at 439-449 West Market street and will erect a $300,000 six-story concrete warehouse and office building thereon. The price of the real estate, which was purchased from R. E. Teter is understood to have been approximately SIOO,OOO. The company plans to beglD operations within a few weeks. Provisions for cold storage, milk bottling, dry storage, coffee roasting and baking plants and for a kitchen will be made in the warehouse building. Officers of the company are D. D. Lehman. president; Myer J. Stein, vice president; C. H Caroll. secretary, and A. M. La Chappelle, treasurer. WIFE CHARGED WITH MCRDER.
