CAN TEACHER ENTER POLITICS? Political Rule in Schools Starts Argument. The political rule of the city school hoard developed more argument and sarcasm In the meeting of that body last night, when E. U. GrafT, superintendent of city schools, asked for an Interpretation of the rule, saying he had received numerous Inquiries from school teachers who had been appointed precinct committee women and wanted to know if their serving In that capacity was a violation of the rule. “It is a clear violation of the rule,” said President Crippin. “It would be a clear violation 1* they were elected,” retorted Mr9. PURCHASE PROPERTY FOR HIGH SCHOOL. Plans for a high school on ThirtyFourth street, between Meridian and Pennsylvania streets, were launched in the meeting by George C. Hitt, business manager of the board, who submitted a report, stating that the Topp property had been secured through condemnation proceedings which amounted to SSO.OOO At the suggestion of Mrs. Tutewiler, Mr. Graff was to submit specifications for the high school. Bert S. Gadd told the board the bonded indebtedness limit was almost reached and said it should not spend any more money on high schools now, but should put the money to a much needed use in the elementary schools. Mrs. Tutewiler said after the waymoney had been spent on Manual and Arsenal Techincal High Schools the north side should have a school. PROVIDE FOR 2,500 STUDENTS. A school with a capacity of 2,500 students was finally decided upon. President Crippin said another high school on the west side probably would be proposed shortly. Johnson, Laura B. Shallenberger, Anna Brennan, Margaret Yule and Edith Blankenship. BOOZE SCANDAL AT LOGANSPORT Cass County Expose May Involve High Officials. LOGANSPORT, Ind., Oct. 27.—Sensational disclosures are expected in the report of the Cass County grand Jury when that body ends its session, following the arrest here Tuesday of Frank Tam, William Sullivan. Riley Mullendore and Henry Gillen, proprietor of soft drink parlors and cigar stores. The men are charged with bribery. It Is expected that before the charges on which the four men are held are sifted that several “high-ups” among Logansport officials will be arrested, charged with accepting bribe money. The arrests yesterday were made following grand jury Indictments and It is said the investigation of certain officials who are said to have accepted graft money is to be taken up at once. The men arrested are charged with paying money to officials to obtain immunity from arrest, while they carried ! on a traffic In home-made brew, white i mule and other concoctions with a j ‘•kick.” The men paid the officers from sls to SSO a week, depending upon business, or to the extent with which they stood in with the gang. I The money was collected weekly, it is said. The deputy prosecutor of Cass County, who usually coaducts grand Jury Investigations, and whose name rumor has connected with the case, has disappeared from the city, along with several olhet officials. The deputy prosecutor Is also secretary of the Cass County Republican central committee. A special deputy prosecutor has been appointed to have charge of the grand Jury during Investigations of the reported misconduct of office.
