IUPERINTEXDKNT’S UGHT QUESTIONED. - The right of the county superintendent o appoint his corps of teachers, was proested by the township officials who state hat politics and religion- often entered ato selecting teachers. An eighth-month term and a minimum alary of SSOO was recommended for eachers who have had less than thirtylx week' normal school experience, and minimum of fl,ooo was recommended or teachers who have had thirty-six reeks of normal school work. Issuance of bonds for the construction f school buildings and an adjustment f tax rates were urged. The example given was that’ Indlanpoliß people do not" care to pay State ixes on a school in Evansville, Gary or t. Wayne, since they are interested only i their home schools. The limit of 4 per cent assessed valuaon for "schools of each township was Iso urged by the legislative board. OUTHERN INDIANA ETARDS GROWTH. Counties of the southern par£ of the tate were blamed by Mr. Lewi? for retrdlng the growth and betterment of idiana schools. PHE refining of petroleum * has been revolutionized during the past ten years. Otherwise the present use of automotive machinery would be impossible. In 1910 the average yield of gasoline from crude was 11 percent, while in 1919 this average had risen to about 26 percent, without in any way, impairing the quality of thejproduet. This tremendous advance was the direct result of applying the findings of scientific workers to the problems of industry, and in this work the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) has taken a leading part. The chemists and technical experts who have charge of the manufacturing activities of the Standard Oil Company (Indiana) have been pioneers in the scientific refining of crude oil. Their success is attested by the fact that the Company has been able to produce an ever-increasing volume of gasoline from the petroleum available. The gasoline problem is important, but it can and will be solved by individual initiative, stimulated by fair and reasonable competition. • In the solving of this problem, the interests of the Standard Oil Company (Indiana), the manufacturer of automotive machinery, and the public are one--greatly increased production is essential. The Standard Oil Company (Indiana) is straining every fibre of its highly specialized organization to increase the quantity of gasoline which may be taken from the crude—to maintain the high standard of quality it has always insisted on, and to do this without disturbing the output of other useful and necessary refined products of petroleum which it must supply. Skin Diseases Not On the Surface
Must Be Treated at Their Souree. \ The mistake that is so generally made In treating diseases of the skin is a very common one, but it is also very expensive to the sufferer.
What are popularly known as skin diseases, are not in reality skin diseases at all. The surface of the skin is the seat of the attack, but the source is deep-seated.
What, then, is this mistake, that the average person afflicted with skin disorders, makes in his effort for relief? And why is it that the error is so general? In the first place, ectema, tetter, scaly eruptions and other irritations of the skin are exceedingly annoying, and in many cases, the itching and burning become Intensely terrifying. Often the victim is kept awake at night scratching and rubbing the burning skin, in an effort to get some relief. Because what he sees and feels of his affliction Is on the surface, he is misled Into the error of believing that all treatment should be directed toward the location of tho pain and discomfort. Then, too. because of the intensity of the suffering ho is-willing to try almost anything that he thinks will afford some measure or relief, no matter how slight.
