One of the events of the musical season at English’s will be the appearance of the Pavley-Oukrainsky ballet on Sunday evening, Oct. 24. Headed by Andreas Parley and Serge Ourkrainsky, the tronpe is equipped to give performances of a large repertoire, drawn from the greatest works composed for this type of expression. Pavley and Oukrainsky are not only the tutors and directors of” the entire company, but also its premiers danseurs —a promising and significant f?°t, since they* are regarded by American and European critics as two of the most brilliant exponents known to the art of the ballet. toire of the Pavley-Oukrainsky ballet is the “Pastorale,” which will appear on the program here. It invariably has to be repeated, after from ten to eighteen recalls. Another striking number Is the dance called “La Camargo,” which has a wonderful costume of the period of hoop skirts, black patches and the gorgeous reproduction. ' This costume has a special trunk and is never packed with anything else. ! The “Danse de Printemps” is a marvelous series of Greek poses, danced with a great garland copied from the garlands used in Greek friezes.
UNIQUE CONCERT OF VICTOR ARTISTS. A unique concert will be given at English’s Sunday night when eight artists, who make Victor records, appear in persod In a program of a varied natures Among the artists Is Henry Burr, who has the unique distinction of being both famous and unknown at the sometime. Although he Is known the world over as one of the foremost makers of talk Ing machine records, comparatively few music lovers have ever seen or heard him sing in person. In addition to solo work, he will be hoard In duets with Albert Campbell, and ilso with the Sterling Trio and the I‘eerless Quartette, he being a member of both organizations. Billy Murray, another member of the Eight Famous Artists, has the faculty of putting smiles into bis recorded workFrank Croxton, basso, who will have two numbers on the program, is also a member of the Peerless Quartette, the other members being Burr, Albert Campbell and John Meyer, all of whom will be heard during the evening. Frank Banta has made a study of modern ragtime. Just as Paderewski has studied the classics, and. as a result, he has succeeded In doing “stunts” that few pianists would care to attempt. He has recorded a numl>er of playerpiano rolls, in addition to a number f talking machine records. He is the pianist of the Van Eps Trio. -I- -i- -- MARINE BAND TO GIVE CONCERTS.
