TWO KILLED IN AIRPLANE PLUNGE Aviators Lose Lives , Near La Grange. Special to The Times.. LA GRANGE, Ind., Oct. •. —De Von Bartholomew, 21, of Waterloo, and Cecil Keis, 20, of Orland, were Instantly killed near here, when an airplane owned by Bartholomew, crumpled under the strain of a long dive and crashed 3,500 feet to the earth. Bartholomew's father had mortgaged hi* farm for $5,000 to provide funds fbr the machine, which dashed Bartholomew and his young passenger to death, it is said. At an altitude of nearly a mile, the plane began an almost perpendicular dive. Apparently under control, the plane < dropped swiftly for about 3,000 feet. Then the wings folded when the pilot attempted tc flatten out too abruptly. The machine dropped like a plumnJet into an open field. The shattered bodies of the filers were found in their seats in the wreckage. Alfred Bartholomew, the father of the victim, is a postal clerk on the New York Central lines, and is the owner of a farm near Waterloo. De Von Bartholomew was the only son. EMPIRE. Mich.. Oct. 4.—Deborah De Costello, 26, aviatrix and parachute dropper, was drowned here when she and her parachute were blown out into Lake Michigan. Her body has not been recovered. Miss Costello was making a drop from an airplane at the Leelanau. county fair. She was a member of the troop that thrilled the State Fair crowds at Detroit a few weeks ago when Byron Tinney was killed while attempting a mid-air leap from one fdam* to another. Miss Costello, as far as could be ascertained today, had no relatives. She came to the United States from Spain when 4 years of age.
