WOMEN ORATORS ARE IN DEMAND More Places Waait Speakers Than Bureau Can Supply. " The Democratic Women's Speakers’ Bureau Is doing a rushing business, with twice as many places clamoring for ■pa&kers as there are feminine prators to fill the dates. Mrs. McCulloch will make * tour on Sept. 28 and 29 of Madison, Blackford. Wells, Jay and Adams counties with Thomas Taggart, Democratic candidate for United States Senator. Mrs. Izetta Jewel Brown will speak at Musbville Sept. 27, at Richmond Bept. 28; Koblesville, Sept. 29; Kijox and Plymouth, afternoon and night, on Sept. 30; Rochester and Wabash," afternoon and night. Oct. 1, and Logansport, Oct. 2. Mrs. Borden Harriman of Washington, formerly chairman of the United States Industrial board, and present national -chairman of the League of Nations Club and the Cox-Roosevelt Club, will make a three-day engagement for Indiana early in October. -Mrs. Olive Beldon Lewis addresses a Cox-Roosevelt Club meeting at Evansville tonight. This is the first meeting in southern Indiana conducted entirely by women. .'•So men will participate, the meeting being presided over by Miss Betty Saunders, vies president of the club. Mrs. George Baker, president of the Indianapolis League of Women Voters, will give a short address on “The Woman in Politics.” WILL MAKE TOIR OE CASS COUNTY. t Miss Landers and Mrs. John Downing Johnson will make a tour of Cass County Saturday, being accompanied, by Mra. Troy Babboek,' chairman of the women's speakers' bureau of that county, and a number of Cass County Democrats. The tour will close with a big Democratic rally at Logansport at night when Mrs. Grace Julian Clarke, Mrs. Johnson and Miss Landers will make addreases. A tour of La Porte County by Thomas Tagg3rt and Carleton B. McCulloch will be made next Tuesday. Mrs. Grace Carpenter of Elkhart, district chalrman j and Miss Dorothy Darrow, organization chairman of Laporte County, are expected to accompany the men. The Itinerary will include Westville. Xacrosse. Mill Creek, Rolling Prairie, Union Mills and Hanna, ending with a big night meeting at I.aporte. Mrs. Ida McGlooe Gibson addresses a democratic rally of Wells County at Blufftcn tonight with Charles J. Orblson. Mrs. Gibson, who was in France for a number of months doing Red Cross work aad who has been a newspaper writer, Is making the League of Nations the main topic of her political addresses.

DEMOCRATIC POLL LISTS HELD UP? Charge Auditor Fesler Fails to Complete Work. Charges that Leo K. Fesler, Marion County auditor, la holding up the registration Hats of the Democratic wards In the county from the Democratic Countj committee were made today. The auditor, It Is claimed, has certified. the lists of the Republican wards to the Republican committee, but says that he has not yet “checked up the Democratic wards." The registration law of Indiana required that the county auditor must certify within ten days following registration day, the list of registrations In each ward to the county commtteee of each party. This time expired Tuesday, and Mr. Fesler states that he has not yet completed the work for certification to the Democratic committee. It is claimed that the registration lists for Wards 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 in Indianapolis, and for Perry, Franklin and Lawrence townships, all Democratic wards, are being held up by Auditor Fesler. It Is necessary for the county committees to have the registration Jiets, la order that they may check up the registrations with the poll books, so that all Democrats that did not register Sept 4 may do so Oct. 4, Republican workers have their lists and are working now along the same line contemplated by the Democrats, but the work of the latter Is necessarily retarded by the failure of Auditor Fesler. BOARD TAKES ’EM UP ON ‘BELIEF’ Displaying what the board termed excellent civic spirit, a delegation of property owners living In Madison avenue between Lincoln and Ray street today aaked the board of public works what kind of material will be used In resurfacing that highway. The delegation came convinced that asphalt should be laid over the present badly worn brick, but after President George Lemaux offered a long explanation to show that about the only type of pavement which would sustain the tremendous use which Madison avenne, as one of the main arteries Into the cen ter of the city, will receive Is a complete resurfacing with asphalt they expressed their approval of the latter form. LACK OF DOGS FOR VIVISECTION School of Medicine Head in Protest, Is Report. Report® that Dr. C. P. Emerson, dean of the School of Medicine of Indiana University, has expressed dissatisfaction because the school has not been getting dogs for purposes of vivisection from the city dog pound were denied today by Felix T. McWhirter, to whom, It la said, the complaint was made. “There Is no controversy whatever.” said Mr. McWhirter. However, it was reported that demands of the school authorities has become so strong that the board of public safety may be called upon to grant the request. George W. Williams, axecutlva secretary for the board, declared that the medical school does not get as many dogs as formerly because the Indianapolis Humane Society finds homes for Impounded canines and there Is none left. Before conditions at the pound were exposed by the Humane Society more than a year ago to he captured and Impounded practically meant death for the unfortunate doggies. Fine dogs which *nade excellent subjects for vivisection were available by the dozens. But all Is changed now. for there is a waiting list of citizens who desire to give them homes. The Humane Society has been so successful that a number of dogs are shipped out of town. Since all of the dogs in good physical condition are eagerly sought by prospective owners there Is none left for execution excepting the diseased and the culls. The reports of Joseph McGlnty, keeper of the pound, for the last three months show that while the drive to locate dogs for which licensed have not been purchased brought an unusual number to the pound, the demand has been such that the number of executions is as low a* ever. In August, IXB dogs were captured. Os these iwenty-slx were destroyed, forty-two released to the Humane Society, thirty-two sold and thirty-three left in the pound on Sept 1. During July, 170 were captured, of which seventy-one were destroyed, fortyseven released to the Humane Society, tweuty-one sold and seventeen left Imptunded Aug. 1.
