WHEN DILLON WAS INTRODUCED.
There were champions, former champions, near champions and coming champions galore at the ringside in Benton Harbor Labor day to see Jack Dempsey tear the foundation away from Billy Mlske's hopes of taking the heavyweight title, but there was nobody in the arena, even Champion Jack hlmse’f, who was as popular with the huge crowd gathered there as was the former “Hoosler Bearcat,” Jack Dillon. At least no one received the amount of applause, the fans' mark of esteem, as did Dillon. As is the custom at events of this kind, the country’s prominent boxers and former prominent boxers gather in the ring before the championship tilt to be Introduced to the fans.

Each was given a bit of applause by a few of his strong admirers, but just before the announcer came to Dempsey and Miske he spied Jack Dillon sitting several rows back from the Ung. “Now, ladles and gentlemeir,” the announcer said. “I want to introduce to you one of the greatest men the Ting game ever had ; a man whose work was an honor to himself and the sport that he represented; a fighter from the ground up, and one who probably was robbed of the li mor of being the champion of them all when fate ruled him “through" just when he was ready, and could have bestn the best man In the world at any weight. I take great pleasure In Intro duclng to you Jack Dillon, the scrappiest riig bearcat that ever lived.” The words were well delivered and every man In the arena rose to his feet and cheered wildly. *We want Dillon,” shouted a number of spectators, and in a second the cry was being shouted throughout the place. Finally a few of those in the ring stepped out and led Jack up through the ropes. Several moments of wild cheering followed, as Jack answered his' friends with smiles, and shook hands with the champion and challenger, who rose to meet him. Dempsey and Miske drew, ample applause when they were Introduced, but it was rather skimp compared with what the fight bugs handed the "Hoosier Bearcat.”
Harry Says: THE CLOTHING SITUATION The “experts” are scratching their aomes and admitting that they know as much about the clothing situation as the next door neighbor’s kitten. The slam-bang drop in woolen prices lasted about long enough to say how-do-you-do-good-bye. The flood of buying resulted in Jhe natural thing—another upward shoot. The comparatively few buyers that were ready to strike while the iron was sizzling, can thank their horseshoes and four-leaf clovers. You will see the shelves of all my stores piled high with the finest fabtics In the world and you will gaup at the sensationally low prices on them. I “got in” at the bottom of the dull season, when the hungry woolen houses were heart-sick marking time —when prices reached bottom with a dull thud. MY SAVINGS ARK ALREADY SEVERAL DOLLARS A YARD ON AN AVERAGE—and on a still stiffening market. You Can’t please me better than to come to my stores with a “line” on the values of the “ready-made” stores, and the other high grade tailors. If you don’t fall all over yourself handing me your order for anew Fall Suit or Overcoat, good Judgment is sure ail out of keiter. Harry Glickman 137 North Illinois St.

We cleaned them up to the suit, and could have sold several hundred more if we would have had them. State Dirt Track Mark Lowered by Haughdahl in Practice for Fair Races A capacity crowd saw feig. Haugdahl, world’s dirt track champion, break the Indiana state record for one mils on dirt tracks yesterday afternoon at the state fair grounds in a trial spin. The former record, held by Art Chevrolet, which he made two years ago, was a mile in 513-5 seconds. Haugaahl, in his little Fiat, made the mile in 51 seconds flat in the trial spina yesterday. The track was in bad shape, due to the rains of the previous night, and the turns were bad, Dut in spite of this the little Norwegian drove lap after lap breaking the state record. He had announced his intentions of breaking the state record if possible, and with plenty of kpeed still left he made it with ease. He practically has broken all records on all tracks upon which he has been driving this season. Nine speed pilots, some of the best In the country, are entered in the events on Saturday, and fans desiring speed and plenty of thrills will have an opportunity of seeing them.
