KEEP SIX PARKS OPEN UNTIL LAST City Playgrounds Will Be Closed Aug. 28. Six of the larger municipal playgrounds will be kept open as long as the weather permits, the board of park commissioners decided at the regular meeting yesterday. These are: Fall creek, Willard, EUeuberger, Greer street, Riley and Military parks. Playgrounds on school property will be closed Ang. 28 and other municipal park grounds will be closed Sept. 4, the board announced. Plans of the recreation department to establish a 'Friday evening school for playground directors at the clubhouse of the South Side Turners to run through the winter were approved. The department will get Its playground instructors from the young men and women who attend these classes, which will be open to anyone interested. The resignation of C. F. Wilkins, athletic foreman for the park department, for seven years, was accepted. . Mr. Wilkins has been in charge of the installation and upkeep of athletic grounds and equipment in all of the' parks during his term of office, and the board expressed regret at his departure. He resigns to take a position with the, Big Four railroad, for whom he will Install athletic fields In various parts of the country. Commissioner Stuckmeyer was Instructed by the board to confer with officials of the Catholic church upon the proposed erection of anew church at Forty-second street and Park avenue. The park board has for some time Intended to take over the ground upon which it is proposed to build a church and convert It into a playground and Mr. Stuckmeyer was Instructed to ask the church If It is possible for the church to find another site.
