There is much talk among the "permanent guests” at the hotel about "profiteering Just because the G. A. It. encampment and the state fair will be held in Indianapolis in September, ana a number of big conventions are scheduled to come to Indianapolis in October.'' There were about fifteen “permanent guests" who received a letter from D. | J. McMahon requesting that they “surrender their rooms,” the letter being sent out under the date of Aug. 18. These ‘ permanent guests” declare they paid the hotel management the regular day rates paid by transients. The letter Pillows: ‘‘Dear Sir —“We are today giving notice to all our permanent guests that after Aug. 31 we are obliged to ask them to surrender their rooms. “After Nov. 30 the hotel will be closed to all guests, and commencing Dec. 6 all „ 1 furniture and equipment owned by us," will be sold at auction, piece by piece. “The months of September, October and November are going to be pretty busy months, and the revenue which we can derive from the rooms occupied by you during that period will be double what you are paying us. “We feel tht we should not be deprived of this additional revenue, for the reason that it will help to overcome the loss which we will suffer by the auction sale of our fixtures and furniture and loss occasioned by being completely out of business during the month of December.” P. O. Employes Must Refund Sunday Pay PostofHce employes will be forced to refund wages received for working on Sundays and holidays since June 5. The order has been issued by Postmaster Robert E. Springsteen in accordance with word received from authorities in Washington, D. C. In the latter part of May congress passed a law ordering compensatory time for Sunday and holiday work instead of pay. The law was Interpreted to be effective In July and many of the employe# accordingly drew extra pay for Sunday and holiday work during June. The controller recently ruled that the law was effective on June 5, and all employes who received pay for the extra work during June must refund It to the government. Provisions to give the employes com* pensatory time for the Sundays and holidays In June were not mentioned. Great Lakes Rand to Play for Encampment Word has been received by John B. Ileynoids, general secretary of the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, that the central division naval recruiting band, now stationed at Great Lakes naval station, will be sent to Indianapolis Sept. 'l9 to 25 so to to be in the city during the Grand Army encampment. Permission for the band so come to Indianapolis was granted by Josephus Daniels, secretary of the navy, on the solicitation of Mr. Reynolds. Lieut. T. E. Orr, In charge of naval recruiting In Indianapolis, assisted In getting the band.
