OFFICER STOPS EASTERN WIGGLES Ilay Market Carnival Brings Its Own Harem. Men, women and children of tender years were jammed Into a tent watching a woman going through a series of highly “oriental’’ writhlngs when Sergt. Harry Franklin halted the dance. “Ton will have to stop this,” said the officer, “because there are women and children here.” As the dancers hurried off the stage a demand for the return of their money was made by the audience attending the “Arabian Nights” show of a carnival playing at the old baymarket near Senate avenue and Maryland street. After a conference between Sergt. Franklin and the show owners, the minors were ordered from the tent and their money refunded. Then before an audience of men and women three women dancers displayed terpsiehorean “accomplishments” that that would pnt the sultan’s favorite in the class of back numbers. “This thing will have to be tamed down or I will close it up,” said Sergt. Franklin. When a second show was attempted more police arrived and the dance performance was stopped. Lieut. Cox later reported at headquarters that he had doted the show and also four alleged gambling devices. Files $1,000,000 Suit Against N. Y. ’Change NEW YORK, Aug. 4.—Allan A. Ryan has filed suit for $1,000,000 against the governors of the New York stock exchange for conspiracy in the controversy during which trading in Stutz stock was suspended. He charged membe's of the board of governors were in conspiracy to repudiate their Stutz contracts; that suspension of trading In the issue was unwarranted, and that his expulsion from the stock exchange was accomplished by a “fixed Jury."
City School Board to Borrow $600,000 The contract tor , the alteration of school No. 7, Bates and Davidson streets, has been awarded by the Indianapolis school board to L. C. Huey Building Company on n bid of 17,532.99. At Its next meeting the board expects tn borrow fCOO.OOO from the bond fund under authority granted by the legislature In special session. A part of the money 1s to be used to pay a temporary loan and the remainder to pay teachers' salaries.

Tells Troubles to Police, Is Arrested Willie Carey. 24, 2SS Douglas street, told his troubles to the police last night and was arrested. Willie was not surprised that he was arrested, for he often is arrested, but seldom, if ever, is convicted in city court. It was only a week ago that Carey and two other men were arrested on the charge of assault and battery on two soldiers who alleged they were beaten because they refused to go to Broad Ripple and shoot craps. The police found Carey In an automobile at Missouri and Washington streets, and Carey said that Leo and Joe Ford beat him up and broke his windshield. At the end of the Investigation the police arrested Carey, charging him with operating a motor vehicle while under the Influence of liquor, John Murphy for vagrancy, Herbart Frlendswan for drunkenness and Leo and Joe Ford for assault and battery.
‘White Mule’ Leads Six to City Court "White mule” whisky caused the arrest last night of six persons on charges of operating blind tigers. When a police sqnad visited the home of Kitty Carpenter, 623 East Miami street, they foupd two men and a gallon of “white mule,” they say. The Carpenter woman was arrested, as were Herbert Wessel, 713 North Noble street, and Albert Suess, 240 Wolcott street. Paul Huhn, 828 Sanders street, was arrested at Wabash and Liberty streets, when, It is said, the police found a half pint of whisky in bis pocket. James Pace, 620 East Court street, was arrested when, the police allege, they found one quart of “white mule” In his possession. Joe Wachtel, 2014 Madison avenue, was arrested on the charge of operating a blind tiger and the police captured three and a half quarts of whisky in a raid on the Madison avenue place.

Pick Guy K. Jeffries as Head of Motor Club Guy K, Jeffries, general superintendent of the Terre Haute, Indianapolis & Eastern Traction Company, will head the Hoosler Motor club for the next year, following his election at a meeting of the board of directors of the club held last night Mr. Jeffries succeeded C. W. Sedgwick, who retired because of the pressure of personal business. The new president has been first vice president of the club for the past two years. A report of the secretary, M. E. Noblet read at the meeting dealt with the proposed bill to be Introduced at the special session of the legislature, which would have doubled auto license fees, and which, due to the opposition of the club, was not Introduced. Plans are under way for a fourth polemarking and sign-posting outfit to be sent out over the state by the club.
