LEGION PLANS FOR JULY FOURTH Patriotic Services in Churches and Parks. Patriotic services In the Indianapolis churches and parks have been arranged for observance of the Fourth of July by the American legion of Marion county. Church bells and chimes will be rung for ten minutes, beginning at 6 o’clock Sunday morning, according to the plans of the legion. “America,” “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer” will be played on the organs of the various churches at 8:30. Pastors are asked to preach sermons on patriotism at the morning services. Community singing of national anthems and short talks by legion members will be the program of a series of sunset services to be held at the different parks in the city. WOMAN IN ELWELL CASE IS QUIZZED Viola Kraus Denies Threats Against Turfman. NEW YORK, July 2.—Miss Viola Kraus, who with with Joseph B. El well the eve of the murder of the whist wizard and turf man, was quizzed for three hours by assistant district attorneys yesterday, District Attorney Swann revealed today. The district attorney s statement said he had been shown a cablegram in which Miss Ann Kane, former housekeeper for Elwell, accused a woman known to her as “Miss Wilson
with making threats against the life of Elwell. “This, taken in connection with the former statement of “Miss Wilson” that she had telephoned Elwell at 2:30 a. m. the day of the murder, rendered it necessary for the district attorney to confront ’Miss Wilson’ with the statement of the former housekeeper and examine her in regard to it,” Swann’s statement said.
