■S'TRACT AWARD ggPBRINGS PROTEST ■aim Commissioners Failed f to Advertise for Cabinets. Protesting against the action of the commissioners in awarding a 'contract for steel cabinets for the county clerk's office to W. C. Brass, of lid South Pennsylvania street, William B. Burford, 3S-40 South Meridian street, made a personal visit to the commissioner’s court today. Burford made the preliminary measurements on which the estimates were made for the cases and stated that he did not know that the commissioners were going to open bids for approximately So.OOO worth of steel cases. President Lewis George of the commissioners stated that the contract for the cases was properly awarded as the notices for bids were published In the daily press. Burford claimed if he had information that the bids were to be opened, he would have submitted bids. “I can not see that we can take any action, because the contract has been duly signed with Brass,” said Mr. George. Burford did not object to Brass getthe contract but contended he had that bids were to be received. Indianapolis Lodge Wins Moose Prizes The first prize in the national ritualistic contest and four of the flTe first prizes offered for individual ritualistic contests hdM at the national convention of the Iseyal Order of Moose, at Mooseheart, 111., were won by the degree team of the Indianapolis Moose lodge No. 17. The success of the team places Inidanapolis in first place among the many teams that are attending the convention from all parts of the United States and Canada. Members of the Indianapolis team are Hngh J. Davey, past dictator; William Shewmsker, dictator; Mark R. Gray, vice dictator; Rev. C. J. McKane, prelate: B. S. Canfield, .orator, and William Mackey. About 500 Moose from Indianapolis lodges are attending the national convention. The 1921 national convention will be held at Toledo, according to reports from the convention. Request of Utility to Borrow Is Denied The Northern Indiana Gas and Electric Company today was denied authority to borrow money by the state public service commission. In the petition the N. I. G. & L. requested to borrow money for an indefinite period of time. Last Rites Today for Aged Citizen Tha funeral of Mrs. Oliver Woods, 62, who died Wednesday at her home, two miles west of this city on the Rockville road, was held this afternoon at the late home. Burial was in Mt. Jackson cemetery. Surviving Is the husband, Oliver Woods, and a daughter, Mrs. Ollie N’eal of Indianapolis. 1920 School Census for County 79,778 Marion county now haw a school enumeration of 79,778, according to statistics made public by J. S. Hubbard, deputy state superintendent of public Instruction. The increase is far above the average and shows 6,073 pupils added to the enrollment over the 1919 enumeration. The total enumeration for the state is 784,430, a gain of 5,644 pupils, or about 7 per cent over the enrollment for 1919. Country schools show a decided decrease, township schools decreasing 2,656 and town schools 4,158. The greatest gains were in Marion and Lake counties, while Vanderburg and Floyd counties lead in losses. BLAZE SWEEPING FOREST. ALBUQUERQUE. N. M., June 25—A fire was reported today to the district forestry office here to be sweeping the Coconino national forest and adjoining state lands near Plagstaff, Aria. A logging camp in the district had lost some of its property, the report said.
