ELKS’ FLAG DAimi? SERVICES HM Former Gov. Ralston Speaker at Exercises. That citizens of the United States play in dlean politics if the government Is to be truly representative, was the high point In the address of former Gov. Samuel M. Ralston at the flag day exercises held in University park by the Indianapolis Elks yesterday afternoon. He said that every American owes it to his country to be a politician of the right sort. The work of the Elks in the war, and especially their support of the Salvation Army, was praised by Mr. Ralston. He declared that America would be forced to play an important part in the world affairs of the future, and those who have by evasion of important issues attempted to keep the country isolated from international affairs were severely criticised. Preceding the address, the flag was raised at the north side of the squars by a navy detachment and members of the lodge. Flag altar services were held with J. H. Tudball officiating, assisted by oMjgr officers. AdJ. Gen. Harry B. Smith gave a history of the flag and Frank P. Baker, exalted loyal knight of the order, read the Elks’ tribute to the flag. Rev. F. S. C. Wicks, chaplain, delivered the invocation. Musical numbers were given by Misg Florence Ann Parkin, vocalist, accompanied by an orchestra directed by Miss Florence Ward. Hubert S. Riley presided as chairman at the exercises.
