900 STUDENTS AT ‘TECH’ HIGH STAGE PAGEANT Depict 100 Years of Local History in Five Elaborate Scenes. MARKS ‘SUPREME DAY’ "Supreme day” was observed at the Arsenal Technical school today with a pageant In which more than MO students participated, depicting 100 years of history, under the direction of Miss Esther E. Shover, a member of the faculty. The pageant, in which 500 students appeared on the stage, and 400 in the ••horus and band, was entitled "Our Arsenal's Gift to Indianapolis.” Throughout the entire action, which t->ok place on the campus of the school, not a word was spoken until the end. when the senior members of the cast repeated the oath of allegiance to the flag in unison. The second scene represented the history of Indianapolis during the period before the construction ot the showed events that made the grourvd available for use by the government, rather than by settlers. In the third scene the conflict was renewed showing the disturbing influences of the Civil war period. This was followed by a scene representing the establishment of the school, including the passing of the grounds and buildings to the city and later events in the history of the school. to take over the state arsenal and a portion of the present site was purchased in 1862 and a portion in 1803. The storehouse of the arsenal was completed two years later. During the Spanish-American war the buildings were used for the manufacture of war supplies. In 1902 the government ordered the arsenal and the grounds sold and the government flag was lowered at sunset, Atfrll 15, 10C3. In the meantime a committee of Indianapolis citizens collected $154,000, which it turned over to the government for the buildings and ground, which according to the terms of the deed, were to be used perpetually for educational purposes. Here from 1003 to 1012 the Winona Technical institute was operated, in September, 1012, eight teachers and lfc3 pupils started the Arsenal Technical schools, which in eight years have grown to their presenl size with 3,060 pupils and 148 teachers, the largest high high school in the city. The Arsenal grounds and buildings were turned over to the city to hold in 1 trust, under the terms of the deed, by the sunreme court, May 22, 3016. This date since has been known as "supreme day" in the school. During the war 233 pupils of the school entered the service of the government. (i. C. L.
