The Right Thing at the Right Time By MARY MARSHALL 8. DCFFKRV / Subjects That Are Taboo In any gathering of fifteen or twenty persons you are almost always sure to find one who seems to be lacking In that finer Intuition that_tells one what subjects give offense and what do not. If you happen to be one who lacks this Intuitive knowledge, then study to remember what sort of things you should and should not talk about. For instance, in a gathering where various shades of belief and conviction are, represented It Is better never to discuss a religious question.
WE CLOSE AT 6 P. M. SATURDAY 1
It Is likewise unwise to discuss matters concerning one’s personal happiness in mere society conversations. Avoid, above all things, bringing up subjects that are oversad or grewaome. There Is never any excuse for a man or woman, when talking casually to a mere acquaintance, to mention anything that would indicate the stae of his or her income or the amount paid for any possessions. Avoid reference to money as much as possible if yo uwould be interesting in the small talk of society. WHAT READERS ASK. “When a girl has no father should she be given away by her mother or brother at her wedding?” Usually by her brother! If he Is an adult, but either would be perfectly correct.—Copyright, 1920.
