Mr. Crampton said each of the candidates had an equal opportunity to appeal to M.chlgan voters, and that Johnson’s appeal won support fairly. He ridiculed any Idea that the Johnson vote was brought about by radicalism.

Fesler, whose nomination for governor by the republicans is declared to be essential to the carrying of Marion county, is being made by the Feslei managers. Just at present It is taking the form of telling how “strong" Fesler is for

the negro, and in the exuberance of their statements the Fesler managers have created an argument over the question of who has done the most for the negro in Indianapolis politics. Fesler managers who have been working along “the avenoo” are pointing with pride to the alleged employment of negro women In the Fesler headquarters, where it is said white and black girls use the same desks in getting out the volume of campaign matter on which Claris Adams, county manager, and Charles O. Raemler, district chairman, are relying to win for Fesler. Recently a number of negro politicians, including W. H. Jackson of “Calumet club” fame, put out a letter attempting to show that when Fesler was clerk of Marion county “the first colored man to hold a clerical position in
