JAPANESE NOW FACE UPHEAVAL Writer Says Serious Political Situation Prevails. LONDON. April &—Behind the curtain Jt censorship and cable interruption •pan is passing through a crisis comparable in gravity to that of 1868, in the opinion of Hugh Redwood, writing in the Daily News. The revolutionary movement which ush ered in the Meijl epoch—the period of *>mUghtened rule," began In 1868 and narked the death of feudalism in Japan. "It would, of course, be going too far," the article says, “to seek an exact parallel in the conditions existtng today, but there are certain significant points of resemblance. “In the first place the workers of Japan have been deeply stirred by the victories of labor In the western world. "Secondly, not only the workers, but the middle class as well, have been exploited shamelesesly by profiteers. DEMAND FOR EQUAL 81 FT RAGE AGITATED. “And, thirdly, side by side with this moment, the product of the war and contemporary happenings, there exists an agitation of longer standing—the de ; mand for universal snffrage. "It is necesary to look at the situation as a whole if the true importance of such incidents as the dissolution of the diet and the strike riots at the great lawata tson works is to be appreciated. "The immediate trouble, however, is probably economic rather than industrial or political. “But for the exces of capitalism, students of Japanese affairs would have considered any considerable spread of socialistic doctrines almost unthinkable among a people holding the throne in such peculiar reverence. KARL MARX FOLLOWING GROWS RAPIDLY. “As it is, three translations of Karl Marx nave been published in Tokio In as many months, and organizations which aim at advancing the powers of ♦he proletariat report, despite persecution. a steady growth of membership. “It would seem, nevertheless, that the great majority of the people are far from ripe for a revolution in the Russian or even the German sense. "Opposing parties, like the two great student leagues, one 0 f which is progressive and the other avowedly reactionary. are prepared to Join forces In sweeping the capitalist class bodily

away, but tie emperor has hitherto been held free from blame for the evils of the times. "It remains to be seen how far and in what direction the imperial rescript dissolving the diet will modify the position." PRINCE TO STOCK CANADIAN RANCH To Form Nucleus for Breeding Herds. CALGARY, Alberta. April The prince ot Wales will ship from England in the next few weeks to his recently acquired ranch in southern Alberta thirty head of Shorthorn cattle, twenty-five Shropshire sheep, eight thoroughbred racing mares and twenty Dartmoor ponies. This announcement was made by W. L. Carlyle, manager of the ranch. The animals will form the nucleus of breeding herds. The Shorthorns were bred on the prince’s estate in Scotland and their blood lines trace to the most fashionably hred animals in GTeat Britain, the original home of the Shorthorn. The Shropshire sheep are selected animals from the Duke of Devonshire's lock. The thoroughbred mares are in foal to some of the famous sires in King George's stables that have made turf history in England. The Dartmoor ponies will be a nev jreed to Canada. Prince Edward believes they will be finely adapted to the prairies. He breeds them on his estate in Cornwall on the high wind-swept moors of which, according to Carlyle, there are a number of herds running wild. The Dartmoor ponies, it is said, catne originally from Spain and were introduced into England in earty centuries. They are among the sturdiest and oldest breeds of horses In England. They weigh 600 and TOO pounds and make excellent saddle animals. In the Dartmoor country they are also driven to carts. The prince's Alberta ranch. Carlyle says, ‘will be known in the future as E. r. ranch. The prince, according to Carlyle, cv pect to visit the ranch at least once In every two years and probably will stop there this summer on his return trip from Australia.

The advent of inercolized wax doubtless has boon largely responsible for this. This remarkable substance produces complexions so natural in appearance, so magnetically beautiful, artificial complexions are no longer desired. Instead of toting” an offensive skin, the skin itH peeled off. The wax peels the skin so gradually, in such fine particles, no discomfort is experienced. The fresher, younger skin beneath, wholly in evidence within a week or two, is lily white, satiny soft and smooth. It’s not a patched-over complexion, but a brand new one. That’s why mercolized wax has become such a rage among society folk. The wax Is put on nights like cold cream and washed off morlngs. All druggists have it, of course; one ounce will do.—Advertisement
