HUSBANDS INSURED AGAINST VAMPS Rose Coghlan Booked at Keith’s—Theda at Alhambra

Wives. if you fear that your husband* 'Kill fall for a vamp, have him insured. Why not? They are insuring everythin?; from the weather to old maids now days and husbands are good ridks. That’s the novel idea advanced in “The Sweetheart Shop,” anew musical comedy with book and lyrics by Anne Caldwell, and music by Hugo Felix, which is in the second of a three-day engagement at English's. The idea of having husbands as well as wives Insured is something new but the fault. If It be a fault, of this new show, la that the song and dance numbers are too numerous and follow too closely on the heels of each other. This show has two tuneful melodies which any show would like to own—they are “Didn't You” and “Waiting for the Sun to Come Up,” with an oriental number, “Caravan,” pnshing the two for first place In the musical score. Esther Howard plays the part of' Minerva Butts, who has herself insured against maie vamps, and she marries I’eter Potter, a sailor, played by Harry K. Morton, only to fall in love with Alfred Lorimer, played very Bohemian like by Joseph Lertora. The insurance agents are on hand and Minerva finds it much more profitable to vamp her own husband. Miss Howard is splendid in the first and last acts, but when she is vamping in the second act she fails to register so well, while she Is natural she Is a hit, while vamping she overdoes it. Harry K. Morton is the knockout of the show and he registers a tremendous persomil hit and after he gets the rough spots ironed out he will carry the whole show on his shoulders. Helen Ford seemed to get a bad start last night, but she made good by singing “Waiting for the Sun to Come out" —really a tune which is bound to be a fiEji seller. The biggest asset of the show is its youthful dancing and singing chorous and how they do dance, busy every mlnnte they are on the stage. The settings are in excellent taste and a lot of money has been spent to make many beantiful stage pictures. The show is headed for Chicago for a summer run and when the rongh spots are Ironed out, it should have a good chance to live for some time. It is anew show and has been In existence only a few weeks. The engagement at Krerllsh’s closes Satnrdav night. -[- -|. Mclntyre and Heath wiil close their engagement at the Murat in “Hello Alexander” with a matinee and a night performance Saturday. Fsnchon and Marco will bring their own dancing and singing revue from the Pacific coast to English’s the first half of next week. Until Rove, splendid in song, especially

ANN SUTTER No, this isn’t ft picture of Eva Tanguav. It’s Ann Sutter, a singing comedienne now at the Lyric. Ann looks like Era and Is somewhat of a volcano, but not so volcanic as the “I Don’t Care” Era. Ann's age is announced as 16. of a southern Jaz* nature, is the current headliner at Keith’s. IJose Coghlan, of much fame on the stage, comes to Keith's next week as the big attraction. Jack Reiki remains the favorite in “The Record Breakers” at the Park. Jack Dempsey continues as the feature attraction at the Broadway in the fifth episode of "Dare Davil Jack," a serial. Shirley Mason, in “Molly and I,” and Madeline Traverse, in “The Tattlers," are-the film features now on view at the Rialto. -I- -I- -ISTILL OX THE SCREEN. The Isis continues to otter wholesome comedy in “Easy to Get," with Marguerite Clark in the leading role. Elaine Hammersteln plays the matrimony game in “The Woman Game” at the Colonial these days. Clarlne Seymour wears a dress made of grass and flowers In the bewitching “The Idol Dancer” at the Circle. , Alice Lake does some splendid work In the celebrated “Shore Acres” now at the Ohio. Thoss who like exciting movies wiil find much to enjoy in “Gunfl4)tlu* Gentleman," now at the Regent with Harry Carey playing the leading role. The Keystone continues to successfully

offer ths well produced movie, “Male and Female." Will Rogers does some rough riding in “Water, Water, Everywhere” at Mr. Smith’s. -I- -I- *!- THEDA BOOKED. Theda Bara will open a four-day engagement at the Alhambra Sunday in “Lure of Ambition.” In this movie Theda returns te the role which she does the best—that of a vampire. - -|- -|. -|- ALHAMBRA. “My Lady's Garter,” a movio now at the Alhambra, Is another contribution to the recent flood of mystery and crook movies. A jewelled garter is stolen and around the missing garter 1* woven a web of mystery which Is not cleared up until the end of the picture. A crook, “The Hawk,’’ appears and disappears leaving- crime in his wake. The hero. Bruce Calhoun, is a min of mystery and is strongly suspected of the thefts of the Hawk. He does not even explain his actions to his sweetheart, but only serves to deepen the mystery of the story. Suspense Is a domlnent factor in arranging the play, and many thrills are supplied by chases and dare-devil nets wn-n the police get on the trail of the actual thief. Os course there is a love story and it brightens up many feature# of the play

that might otherwise be too dramatic. Opinion—A well directed photoplay; good acting by Wyndliam Standing as Bruce and Sylvia Breamer as the'girl in the case. Political Sidelights George A. Gralinm of Logansport will seek the nomination for the office of reporter of the supreme epurt at the republican state convention, he has announced. He is opposing Will H. Adams, incumbent, who asks renomination. Several of the republican candidates of the Jewett faction in Marlon county are making speeches in behalf of the candidacy of James W. Fesler for the republican nomination for governor. Prosecutor Claris Adams spoke to Ninth ward republicans last night in his behalf. Edward C. Toner, candidate for the republican nomination for governor, doesn’t hesitate to denounce the throttling of Marlon county candidates in favor of James W. Fesler, one of his opponents. He told an audience at the Midwest Engine Company that many candidate in Marion county were forced to sign the resolution Indorsing Fesler against their will. “How do such aetics square wit\ the repeated statements of our national chairman that the purposo of the org&nixation lg to elect and not to select

candidates?” asked Toner, nenee Orme. candidate for the nomination for state s-nator in Marlon county, was placed in a “tight” position by the Fesler Indorsement. He had promised McCray his support and refused to pledge an indorsement to Fesler. McCray told Orme to use his owu Judgment, and Orme has finally signed the indorsement for Fesler. Senator Hiram Johnson, encouraged by the stinging defeat which he administered to Gen, Leonard Wood in the Michigan
