French Bachelor Tax Hits Old Maids , Too PARIS, April 2.—The French government has put a premium upon marriage by imposing a 10 per cent tax upon bachelors and spinsters. Spirited discussions were* aroused by the provision of the measure taxing women as well as men. Members of the chamber Os deputies opposed this clause on the ground that the bachelors were really responsible for the unmarried condition of* the women.
CHILD NEGLECT ' CHARGED TO PAIR Mother Said to Have Deserted 7 Tots for *Another Man’ Affidavits charging neglect of children were sworn out today in Juvenile court against Oren T. Skinner. 44. 320 South Alabama street, and Mrs. Della Gibson, 40, 2408 East Washington street. The couple disappeared March 17, according to the reports- made to the Indianapolis Humane society. Five of Mrs. Gibson’s seven children were at home when Sergt. Fred Gunsolus of the Humane society called at the East Washington street residence and four ot that number were 111. The five youngest Gibson children are Wynee, 13; Thelma, 11; .Tamsia, 9; Bennie, 7, and James 0., 2 years old. Mrs. Oren T. Skinner, wife of the missing man, wept as she told of her years of hard Vork as a rooming house and restaurant keeper. Mrs. Skinner has a son, James. 14. and a married daughter. “I am left without a dollar," she sobbed. "I want him arrested," she said. “Ob, I wart him to suffer as I have suffered." The children of Mrs. Gibson told the police their mother had gone to California, but the police say they havo information that both Skinner and Mrs. Gibson are in Indianapolis.

Macßeth, who filed a petition in voluntary bankrutey on Nov. 7, 1919, was named as the defendant In a suit tiled in federal court by the Brazil Trust Company, asking that conveyance and transfer of property to bis mother, executed before the date of the bankruptcy petition be set aside for payment of debts to his creditors. It is alleged that Macßeth inherited property from his ratner In Clay county which he transferred to his mother for the alleged purpose of defrauding his creditors.

Fight on Street Leads to Arrest — Major Auff, 28, 4813 Broadway, was arrested early today on the. charges of assault and battery and drunkenness. Motor Police Reilly and Weddle received a call to a West Ohio street chill parlor at 12:45 o’clock this morning on the report of a fight. The alleged battlers were gone when they got there. At Illinois and Vermont streets, the police saw three young men in an argument and claim Auff struck one of the men.
