HOUSE SHIES AT SEDITION BILLS Legislation May Be Allowed to Go Over This Session, WASHINGTON. Apiril 2. —Congress may abandon for tills settsiuu all attempts* to enact nnti-sedition legislation. Although the house judiciary committee has before it a number of bills to punish for seditious acts and utterances, there is no present move on the part of the committee to call up the legislation for consideration. Senator Sterling, father of an antisedition bill that caused a storm of protest and was killed after it had passed the senate, is understood to be preparing another bill which he will present to the senate. Chairman Volstead of the house judiciary committee, said today no movement was on in his committee to take up *- ditlon legislature. Action by the New York assembly in expelling socialist members of that body caused a number of members of the house to begin agitation today for a federal anti-sedition law. Other members of the house are counseling caution in connection with such laws, and are urging that several stares be permitted to handle the situation within tbelr own jurisdictions under the -tate laws. Seeks Definition for Co-operation WASHINGTON. April 2.—lnvestigation of co-operation between the department of justice and the beef packers in various campaigns conducted hy the attorney general, was taken up today by the house agriculture committee, before which Attorney General Palmer was to appear. Testimony of L. D. H. Wald, statistician for Swift & Cos, who said the firm he represented was “co-operating with the department of justice" in the furtherance of the “cheap cut” campaign being conducted by the department brought about the action. Jury Action Awaited in Girl Luring Case Sam Miller, who was charged with luri*~ a young woman from an East Ohio street rooming house, is awaiting action ay the county gruinl jury. EASTER FLOWERS IN GREAT DEMAND Cheaper Than in Years and Supply More Plentiful. Indianapolis persons are going to “say It with flowers” this Easter. According to florists there never has been a heavier demand for blooms and plants. Irwin Rertermann of Rertermann Brothers says the reason for the demand is that flowers are cheaper, better and more plentiful this Easter time than in several years. The spring weather has been most favorable to hothouse blooms, he claims. Enster lilies are selling from 60 to 70 cents a bloom, while plants are going at from $2.50 to $6. Roses are $4, $5, $6 and $0 per dozen. Rose bushes in bloom are marked from $3 to $lO. Carnations, tulips, jonquils, and in fact all popular types of flowers are in demand, Mr. Rertermann asserts. Carnations are selling from $2.50 to $3 per dozen. Other florists report business good and prices lower. Caillaux Verdict Expected in May PARIS, April 2. —The curtailment of evidence in the treason trial of former Premier Joseph Caillaux probably will enable a verdict to be reached the middle of next month, instead of July, as originally predicted, it was stated today by Deputy Moutet, one of the lawyers for the defense. Caillaux himself believes there is a chance of acquittal, but most of his frieuds expect he will be found guilty and will be given a mild sentence of punishment. Caillaux’ lawyers believe the verdict will carry reservations that will enable the defendant to rehabilitate himself politically. Farmers Wax Rich ‘Excavating’ Autos A. A.
