WOMAN WRITES THAT BERLINERS BOOED AT KAPP Turmoil at Its Height as She Flees to Paris, Says Zoe Beckley. By ZOE BECKLEY, Staff Correspondent of the 'Newspaper Enterprise Association. PARIS, March 19.— 1 hare Just reached Paris after a harrowing trip out of Berlin on the last train before the revolution halted travel. My train left Berlin Saturday night. March 13. I saw the first day of the revolution —the day that the Ebert government fled before the Kapp monarchist revolutionists. At midnight Friday, the 12th. I went out into the Enter den Linden. It ■was packed with soldiers in full equipment, with packs, rifles, trench helmets and machine guns. It was the eve of the revolution. But few Berliners knew it. ORATORS PLEAD FOR .TI NKER REVOLUTION. Next morning came the revelation. Eariy on Saturday big crowds filled the Enter den Linden and other streets. They were excitedly reading handbills and listening to speakers. Street orators were exhorting the crowds to support the movement to overthrow the Ebert government. But the attitude of Berlin people was still oue of excited curiosity. They did r.ot seem serious. Letter in the day Wllhemstrasse, the street where; the foreign office stands, and several neighboring streets were closed by barbed wire barriers. Soldiers with- nut chine guns and rifles appeared at every Important corner in central Berlin. Then Berlin took notice in earnest. STEEL HELMETS WORN AS JN WAR. There were groups of soldiers eTery few feet End walking in pairs up and down the Enter den Linden. All were felly armed, wearing steel helmets. Hand grenades were stuck in their belts. I got my camera and took snapshots of several soldier groups. I almost caused a riot. An irate civilian became greatly excited at an American woman’s "imperineace.” He tried to seize the camera. In

They were permitting the paper to be printed on condition it published bulletins issued by the new governmeut. Crowds are still jamming the streets. The atmosphere was tense. I reached Cologne, in the occupied territory, Sunday, and found the principal cases closed. Windows had been smashed in food riots the day before. Everybody looked for more serious trouble. Cologne streets swarmed with active British "Tommies” and officers. Preparations were being made to cope with any trouble—whether from monarchist revolution or a counter-revolution by reds. MARSHAL TO BE AT BOOZE RAIDS Orbison Says Need of Warrants Won’t Hamper Work. The ruling of John F. Kramer, national prohibition director, restraining dry agents under Maj. A. V. Dalrymple from making arrests or seizing liquor without warrants from United States commissioners will not materially affect the work of the local prohibition forces, according to Charles J. Orbison, enforcement officer for Indiana. The ruling of Mr. Kramer provides that L'alrymple’s agents make no rsids or seizures of liquor without first obtaining the approval of the district attorney and a warrant from a United States commissioner. It is further provided that a United States marshal take part in every raid and that all liquor seized be given into his custody. The ruling grew out of the Iron county, Michigan, raids. Mr. Orbison explained today that he and Maj. Dalrymple were heads of coordinate branches of the prohibition department and that the duty of the Indiana director was largely a matter of educating the people to favor an enforcement of the law and to see that local officers make proper efforts to prevent its violation. There are sixteen agents under Maj. Dalrymple working in Indiana out of the local office, with some additional agents at Evansville and Hammond. Maj. Dalrymple, as commissioner, has charge of Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, lowa and Minnesota. Inspectors from the local office are Maj. Pearle A. Davis and Edward P. Brennan of Indianapolis and William Johnson of Ft. Wayne. Judge Orbison said he would interpret the recent order ns requiring all raids to be made under the direction of a United States marshal. Lowry Wants Tract for City Park Site Attention of the park board has been called to a triangular piece of ground in the vicinity of College avenue. Thirtieth street and Fall Creek boulevard as a proposed site for anew park, according to James H. Lowry, superintendent of parks. Residents living in the vicinity yesterday sent a letter to the park board suggesting the location. The ground is t owned by the school board and is now | being used as a dumping place, It is said.

BIDS FAREWELL TO BRIGHTWOOD Ezra Newhouse, 6ft, of 2371 Stewart street, one of the oldest citizens of Brlghtwood, today moved to bis farm near Lawrence, Ind. He came to Brightwood more than thirty-two years ago, when that section of Indianapolis was a separate town. Newhouse was elected city marshal in those days and enforced the law among the 1,500 inhabitants of the town of Brightwood. Later he became superintendent of the Brightwood waterworks company, and was overseer of the work of laying the first pipe lines for the water supply in tho northeast section of the city, lie was superintendent of the Brigh'wood waterworks when the suburban district known as Brightwood was annexed to Indianapolis in 1887. Since that time he has been a contractor. "Brightwood is a good place to live,” said Newhouse today when he called at No. 2t fire engine house, Olney street and Glenn drive, to say goodby to the "boys.” He has been a familiar figure at the firehouse in recent years. "I came to Brightwood with very little money more than thirty-two years ago,” he continued. “I have earned a good living in Brightwood, educated two children, and I have a farm near Lawrence. A few days ago I sold my residence on Stewart street. My wife and I will live j on the farm until October, when we will start a western trip. Civil War Romance Brings 1920 W edding LEXINGTON, Ky„ March 19.—A romance which began in 1862 culminated today in the marriage of Edward F. Haley, a confederate veteran, and Mrs. Joseph Bales, a wealthy widow, who says she is a third cousin of President Wilson. Fifty-eight years ago Haley kissed his cousin, Mattie Maupin, then a 7-year-old girl, and marched away to war. The girl often wondered what had become of “Cousin Ed,” who did not return.
