ASSAILS WAGES OF POSTAL MEN Woman’s Auxiliary Charges U. S. Has Neglected Workers. Demoralization of the postal service of tie country 1b greater than that of tha railroads, according to a statement today by the Woman’s Auxiliary to the Federation of Postoffice Clerks. Dow wages and unfair treatment of clerks Is given as the reason for Inefficiency of the service by the women's organization. Mrs. M. I\ Higgins Is president; Mrs- Prank Brown, secretary; Mrs. D. K. Batty, corresponding seerit&ry, and Mrs, B. 8. Cummings, treasurer. Statistics are given to show that wages of postal workers have advanced but 87% per cent, while the cost of living has risen 104 per cent, as shown by department of labor figures, the statement says. The women say that while railroad men have “employed the most radical measures for securing better wages and Improved working conditions, and have continually held over the nation the terrible threat of crippling the country's commerce by strikes and radical methods, the postal workers have been loyal, patient and long suffering. Asa result the railroad workers are among the highest paid workers in the country and are still olamoring for additional Increases, whereas the postal workers are toiling for starvation wages and the prospects are dark indeed for any relief In the near future.” Substitute clerks are receiving 60 cents SB hour working beside skilled clerks who get 54 cents an hour, the women’s statement say!. That is because substitutes can not be obtained for less. John D. Jr. Retires From Colorado Board DENVER, March 16— John D. Rockefeller, Jr., has retired after seventeen years as a member of the board of directors of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company here at the annual- stockholders' meeting yesterday. John C. Mitchell, a Denver banker, was chosen to succeed him on the board. A company official said the action was “In line, with Mr. Rockefeller’s general desire to be relieved of responsibilities connecetd with board anemberships.” Legion’s Bonus View to Guide Local Post Members of the Brace P. Robison post of the American Legion will Indorse the decision of the executive committee of the national organization on the subject of a bonus for soldiers, it was announced today. The reason for the addition of recruits at this time Is because several hundred former enlisted men have chosen to take flying training as cadets at the pilot schools at Arcadia, Fla., and March Field, CaL, and because the northern flying fields will Increase their activities in the spring. The aviation repair depot at the speedway Is the only northern repair depot of the service. Applicants for enlistment should communicate with the adjutant at the depot. J. B. Reynolds Heads Phi Delta Fraternity John B. Reynolds, general secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, will lead the Indianapolis Alumni club of Phi Delta Theta fraternity this year. He was chosen president at a banquet of the club last night. Other officers elected Included Judge Solon J. Carter, vice president; Ernest Whilyermouth, reporter, and William H. Remy, secretary-treasurer. Mayor Jewett was selected as delegate to the next national convention of the fraternity. More then 200 members of the fraternity attended the banquet, Including men from Butler college, DePauw university, Franklin college, Indiana university and Purdue university. John D.
