VICTORY LOOMS BIG IN INDIANA FOR DEMOCRATS Fighting Man Has Straight Path Paved by Republican Mistakes. GOOD FEELING IS RIFE Not in the last fire years have the democrats of Indiana had occasion to congratulate themselves on the brilliancy Os their party’s star of ascendency to Ute extent that has been given them Within the last two weeks. Things have fefppened In Indiana politic? that have {laced anew face on old conditions and are pointed stronger than ever to the fact that democratic success next fall will be measured In Indiana wholly by the extent to which Indiana democrats bestir themselves. 1. The Watson faction of the repub 11 can party has assumed the leadership of that part of the party which will no longer answer to the crack of the machine whip and whoop for Jame3 P. Goodrich when Chairman Ed Wasmuth gives the cue. 2. The Goodrich machine has"' come into the open and declared that it will continue to operate the republican party in the state, even If its operation spells the collapse of the whole organization. 3. Republicans from outside the state have come to a realization that Indiana has no “favorite son” for the presidency and Is in reality open territory for th corraling of delegates. 4. The shameless way In which the republican legislature passed the suffrage resolution and ran away from the other ndmltted duties has aroused the democrats to a sense of duty and they are beginning to see that the whole state demands relief from the “centralization” in the office of Gov. Goodrich of all the power of the state government. TAX LAW DILEMMA SPURRING CIRCUMSTANCE. 5. The desperate efforts of the republican state committee and others to defend the administration of the tax laws have served to arouse the state to the Iniquities of this law to a greater extent than anything else could arouse it,6. The combination of all these influences has induced the active democrats of Indiana to get busy and county meetings throughout the state are being *eld with enthusiasm and good feeling. ' Even the hide-bound republicans of Indiana admit that the democrats have never had a better chance to carry the state regardless of the political situation nationally than is presented today. At democratic statq headquarters the word comes from republicans every day that preparations ought to be made to win a victory, for there Is a victory in sight and all that is necessary to win it is preparation. The recent announcement of Dr. Carleton McCulloch and Mason E. Niblack of their candidacies for governor, the entrance of S. M. Foster as a candidate for lieutenant-governor and the steady “plugging” of John Eisenbarger for the governorship have all had their effect. They have aroused the sleeping democrats to the fact that these men see a chance of victory, for they are not the type who would give up their time and effort to the leading of a lost cause. Among a great many democrats there is a feeling that the entrants for the governorship race are not all in ..yet. There is a disposition to feel that at least one more candidate will be brought out, and It is generally Con'ceded that when he does come he will be of a flgl tiug type—some man who will enter the lace on the theory that a spade is a spade and should be so designated. MEMORABLE CAMPAIGN EXPECTED THIS YEAR. While no one appears to know from wher ce this type of a candidate will spring, there is an apparent confidence that he will come forth and with bis coming there will be a campaign that will linger long in memory. Newspaper men who have watched political campaigns In Ipdiuna for, years unite in the belief that tills campaign is going to be a “hot one." They express the opinion that there will be a hammer and tongs fight before the election and that the candidate who lights the hardest, the boldest and with the least timidity will be elected. In this respect they concede that whoever the democratic candidate is, he will have the advantage, for he will not be compelled to defend anything that even remotely resembles the Goodrich administration. This, they say, is the year for democracy in Indiana, for the reason that, the republican party is split, the administration in need of much explanation and the enemy on the defense. Democratic victory, it is conceded, even by republican state officeholders, depends wholly on ability to grasp the opportunity and make the most of it while the republicans quarrel over who shall dominate their own party.—Copyright, 1920, Indiana Publicity Bureau.
INDIANA G. O. P. UNINSTRUCTED (Continued From Page One.) of the hundreds present haring enough interest In him to start a single handclap. But on this same day approximately 1,500 names 'were signed to petitions to kplaee Wood on the primary ballot. These were circulated by men who fwere not connected with the Wood organisation, but were against Goodrich and Wood’s candidacy the best chances showing Goodrich that he was not ■)TVDEK, JOHNSON Hn*l> HARDING COMING. Bp Lowden, Johnson and Harding will now Pcome into Indiana and the Wood sup- ’ port will be divided. With Goodrich out of the way, there will be no incentive for the anti-Goodrich element to push the candidacies of any one candidates Goodrich can not swing his support to any one candidate in sufficient force to make any difference. Under these circumstances no candidate can get a majority of the votes in this state and without a majority there can be no binding instructions on the delegation. The soft pedal will be applied to the Wood movement in Indiana from now on and gumshoe efforts to present to the voters’ delegates who are at heart Watson men will be fostered by the Watson people. Goodrich will not be Rble to prevent this. Half of his power in the state wag scuttled when he declared himself out of the race for the presidency. The other half of his power consists of his influence over officeholders and the state organization. He will, of course, endeavor to retain his strength with the state organization for use In boosting the candidacy of J. W. Feeler, his choice for the governorship nomination, but even the state organization will regard him as down and out in Indiana politics and his Influence will no longer be sufficient to control even a part of the national delegation. PEOPLE “GOT ONTO GOODRICH.” The Goodricb-for-President boom collapsed because the people of Indiana “got onto Goodrich." This was brought about by the persistent exposes of the rottenness of his state administration. Goodrich made the mistake of ignoring these exposes until It was too late to counteract their effect. Finally, when he awakened to the harm they had done his presidential aspirations he found that he had no avenue through which to answer them and no one about him capable of preparing answers. He attempted to defend the unjust tax assessments of corporations In which he was personally in-
terested and in his attempts admitted the errors of his tax board and the public service commission. When his attempted defense failed there was nothing for him to do but retreat, and he retreated even before his best friends expected him to do so. His retreat is a positive riot. Goodrich is done in Indiana, and Watson's friends are in the ascendency. They will, from now on, assume the same attitude toward the Goodrich element that the Goodrich element assumed toward

Undigested food delayed In the stom, I aeh decays, or rather, ferments the same 1 as food left in the open air, says a noted authority. He also tells us that Indigestion is caused by Hyper-acidity, meaning there is an excess of hydrochloric acid ; in the stomach which prevents complete | digestion and starts food fermentation. I Thus everything eaten sours in the stomach much like garbage sours in a can, j forming acrid fluids and gases which J inflate the stomach like a toy balloon, j Then we feel a heavy, lumpy misery in the chest, we belch up gas, we eructate sour food or have heartbnrn, flatuj ienee, water-brash or nausea. He tells us to lay aside all digestive aids and instead, get from any pharmacy four ounces of Jad Salts and take a tablespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast and drink while it is effervescing and furthermore, to continue this for a week. While relief follows the fust dose, it is important to neutralize the acidity, remove the gas-making mass, j start the liver, stimulate the kidneys and thus promote a free flow of pure digestive juices. Jad Salts is inexpensive and is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, | combined with lithla and sodium phos-’ pliate.
