,it? h"riff"s 5a5e' atlvenisetl to take place on thn 23th o.Urnn, is postponed, as will be seen, to Monday next. Our town is banning to assume its usual buinfs aplearar:ce at this season of the year. Hay and other art;c!,3 ol exportation are daily crowing oar streets and wnarves. Several hay boUs have left fur the lower country atners are ludmg and v. ilj put off in a fo.v davs. From present appearances we are induced to believe that there iilbe an increase of exportation from this nlace, th's teason, of twenty percent, over any forn.-r year. The great quantity of hay and corn in this vicinity, (the two .principal articles of exportation) will certain! y justify such a conclusion. In addition to our incroa ing business on the river, our town improves and grows. Several very-substantial and elegant building are being erected; such as a bankinghouse, storehouse?, &c; all brick, and, as we brieve, intended for three or four stories. Extensive preparations are a!s3 making for the pork business this fall, and m addition to our former large and commodious buildings for packing, Maj. John Dunn has erected cue of the largest class large enough, one would suppose, tii pack away ull the pork in the State. These improvements, with others of minor importance, will add much to the appearance and advantage of the place.
Wc have not yet received completa returns from the North Carolina elections. It is believed, however, that the parties will not be materially changed, if any, from the last representation. There is a probability of one being gained to the administration.
The Frankfort Argus says the strength of parties in the next Legislature of Kentuckj-, will be as follows: lu the Senate 21 Whigs, 17 administration. In the House of Representative?, 59 Wh'gs, and 41 administration. It fcems from this statement that there has been an increase to the administration party, since last year of 10 or 15 members.
"HUNG BE THE HEAVENS WITH DLACK." Ye gods' and Utile fishes 1 ! ! Friend Hue!!, of LawrenceburgU has ordered, his panr.r stopped lie is the son-in-law of Amos Lane. All the protlered acta of friendship of this individual have vanished ! ! ! When we support a man for office "we do it from disinterested motives every offer of an office Arc xye consider in the light cf a bribe, and in proportion to the magnitude, of the offer, we despise the person offering it. Do you understand roe! The above is from General Keen's Weekly Messenger, and need we inform our numerous and liberal readers that the General does our f fiend exceedingly enormous m-justice! Did the General consider at the moment he penned the above squib the portentous import ofiti meaning? Mr. Putll, 'lack-a-daj-, had his subscription to the Palladium even, directly after the election, discontinued ; tut, unlike the General, in his mad zeal, we took a different, and by far a more probable, view of the case, and thought Mr. Huell actuated riot by conscientious or political scruples, but by the purest pecuniary principles, and, therefore, let Mr. Puell pass the even tenor of his way unmolested, as he deserved to be. We shall expect the General to retract thess tMiberal stricturer, and be mora circumspect hereafter. We think a man has a just right to exercise his pecuniary principles in such matters just as he please-, aud we foel bound to defend Mr. Iiuell from Gen. K's --merited calumny. If it is only the pecuniary part of the matter winch has raised his ire so unnecessarily, we will lay ourselves liable to him for one subscriber, provided h will promise to give the right meaning the next time he indites a squib relative to the withdrawal of a subscription. Wc can very easily do it, as we haveg-rmird some half dozen inconsequence. Mark us, General! we are determined that the persecuted Mr. Due!! shan't be slandered in this nay silently we will "carry the war into Africa" first! The Weekly Messenger says that the price of wheat has fallen SlO-per cent, in that vicinity during the past week. The editor thinks this is owing to a "combination" of the millers and merchants for the purpose of speculating Jii the article. We discover that wheat i now selling in Louisville, and at many of the towns on the river in this State, at S7d vents per buihel.
The Cu.mkt. It appears that both the Cotton I S ar CfP8ave-. sustained very considerable injury .even in the most favorable situations, but particularly on the low grounds, or back lands, as they are called, which have been kept constantly covered with water. Of ordinary seasons the Cotton Crop -is hauls to receive the greatest damage in he month c Heptcmher, and if in addition to the injury already done, we-should have a recurrence or sucli storms as are sometimes experienced in that month, the loss that would ensue, would be very serious; but, as we have before remarked, a drv, favorab e lall would do much to retrieve the ravels tWti7 Crmmitt.?; ne t,,inS. however, is certain, that the Crop will be thrown back fully a month later than usual, and consequently more liable to be hurt by early trobts. We do no feci disposed to become a arm-sts, and are fully aware that statements -jout short Crops are always current at this time of the year, that they are generally very much exaggerated, and that we should be the last to lend oSr aid in giving currency to such report, if we beleved .hat they had not some foundation in fact; but in the present instance, we have no doubt but that they will be somewhat shortened, though perhaps not so materially as now anticipated. Cotton The market is nearly stagnant for the want of something to operate in, but there is verv little inquiry, and prices rule about the tame. U is calculated that there is not more than 2000 bales ot all descriptions on sale, and that amount is made up ol a number cf small parcels, distributed throughout t.e pla-e. The following are all the saof winch we could learn since our last, viz: of Mississippi 110 hales nt 1G cents: of Alabama and Tennessee 4.-50 at 17 a, 10, at 18, GOO at Hi?, and 19 bales Texas at 19 cent?. A portion of picked cotton and th remnants of the whole season, are included in some of the above sales. iSro.vR Though the demand for New Orleans &ugar may be called limited at the prices asked; vet there is more or less buying, and the stock which hag all along been very fair, is gradually becoming reduced.
