Tits Cholera. From tie annexed paragraph from the Nashille Republican, of the 4th instant, it would appear that the Cholera has visited the town of Kusscllvillc, Ky. with almost unexampled iolence. We trust, however, that the account is exaggerated : "By tho last accounts we learn that between fifty and a hundred persons have died in Russcllvillo Ky. of Cholera. Among the victims are Col. W. L. Sands, Charles Rhea, Editor of the Weekly Messenger, Win. L. Harding, Geo. Gray, F. R. Drowning:, James C. Slaughter, Doct. Wilcox, R. S. Emmitt, R. Belt, James Armstrong, R. Jackson, S. Myers, S. W. Linebraugh, Mrs. Warren and daughter, Miss Underwood, Miss O'L'iuaon, Miss Rice, and Miss Purges."
ITydraphobia. Our neighbors opposito this place, in Boon county, Ivy. were thrown into a great bluster, a few days ago, from the appearance of a dog among them affected with this horrible disease. Wo understand that the First symptom of his rabidness was a ferocious assault upon every thing which happened in his way; and, although every effort was made to kill him, j-et, we
are sorry to hear, it was not until he had bitten a white
boy and negro man, w ith some twenty or thirty hogs and cattle, that it was effected. Immediate application of
w hat is called "madstoue," to tho wounds of the two unfor
tunate individuals, was thoi-ght, and is to bo hoped, will
prove effectual in extracting the poison, and saving them
from a most distressing death.
I his is more evidence, if evidence were wanting, against
keeping dogs. We look upon them as useless as worse
than useless, to farmers, even when viewed in their most unexceptionable light, and we are pleased to hear that our frit nds in Boon count', are making such use of them as will
soon rid the neighborhood of their presence. As for our
selves, w e were never on terms cf particular amity with
this race of animals, even in times of our w armest pre
dilections; and since it ha3 been our fortune in life, to en
counter more than our share of foT-matical dog-mas, from that less exceptionable class of dogs who frequently insinuate themselves into one's presence, we have taken a pre
judicial hatred to the w hole ca7iine race, and earnestly hope
that a disposition for ruling the country of this nuisance may become more general, until it is entirely removed.
Qj-Aftertwo or three weeks of extremely dry weather, we w ere visited on Thursday afternoon last by a very copi
ous rain, tor two or tnree hours it poured down tremendously, and since we have had occasional showers. The rain was accompanied by a strong wind, but owing to tho drj-ness of the earth, little or no damage was done to the corn in this vicinity. The crop envigorated by the moisture, and arrived at an age not to be affected by future draught, bids as fair as could be desired. Should no Fevere winds visit this vicinity, the corn crop this season w ill bo. abundant beyond precedent.
The market on Fifth Street, yesterday wo? full to overtlowing'. Three hundred and eighty Wagons, loaded with provisions, were counted in the market; and tho contents of each met with a ready sale. The prosperity of our city is unexampled the health of tho citizena is better than has been known for several years and every one eeeins to bo enjoying tho good things of this world without much alloy. Congrtssio7wl Flections. Wc give to-day tho official votes for members of Congress in this State, so far as received at the secretary's oviice. The -ith diftrict only is complete. Mr. Lane's majority, it will bz teen, is 82. From the other district?, though the returns are imperfect,
t nough has been ascertained to say that in the first, Jtathfi
I toon is John W
over Charles Dewey ; in the 5th, Jonathan M'Cartv over
James Rariden and John Finley; in the Cth, George L. Kinnard over Jacob Lowe; and in the 7th Edward A. llannegan over James Gregory. The majorities in the 1st 2d, and 3d district?, are supposed to range between GOO and 1000; and in the 5th, Cth, and 7t'i, between 1500 and 3000 Col. Kinnard's is no doubt the largest. With the exception of the 2d district, (Davis in place of Ew ing,) no change has been made in the representation in Congress from this State. In regard to general politics, we believe all the members elect are friends of the present administration; and with one exception perhaps (M'Cartv) favorable to tht election of Mr. Van Burcn to the Freud ency.
In another part of our paper w ill be found an interesting letter, taken from the New-York Courier and Enquirer, which gies a full account of a running fight between the United States cutter Ingham and the Mexican schooner-of-war Montezuma, off Brassos de Santiago, in Texas, causal by political contingencies existing between citizens of the United States and the Spaniards, and the base conduct v( the latter in captuiing the American schooner Martha, uud imprisoning her passengers. It seems that the conllict a forced upon the American vessel, and it is with pride we record the bravery and courage displayed by her ollicjr and crew in forcing from th Mexicans the liberation of our citizens confined by them, in which the interposition of Uie L. S. Consul ia their behalf, proved unavailing. Wo find upon an examination of tho returns of votes Aven nt the recent election in this State, that Wayne county ?till holds the predonderance in political ctrength, though some of her tistcrs are gaining a little upon her. Taking the congressional us nearest the correct poll of each county, and it will be seen that Jefferson has 2020 votes, Clark 1757, Marion 1831, Knox 1US, Washington 17i)G, Fayette 1315, Franklin 1409, Rush 2133, Duarboru 2515, and Wayne 3212. In IS 2l, Fayette gave 1071 otes for member of congress, Franklin 1112, Rush 777, Dearborn 2021, and Wayne 2273. We have no statement convenient cf the vote in 182Gofthe other counties named; but, with the exception of Marion, in which the increase luis been most rapid, the ratio of increase has been about cpiaj. Jiuch, from being the lowest in 1826, now ranks a the third county in the Stato in political ftrenh.
Kc.NTtCKr. The Hon. P. II. PerE has lost hie election his competitor, Mr. Graves, beating him by a majority of l(i0 or 470 Mr. Lccomptc, (democrat") holding himself out as a candidate to the last, causei I Mr. V ope's defeat. The Louisville Daily Ad ertiser remarks : kThe increased vote of Mr. Pope, particularly in this city, is uliLe complimentary to him and gratifying to the democratic paity. It demonstrates that correct principles w ill ngain predominate here." Mr. Marshal!, has boon elected in the I3th Congrcsionil District, and Mr. Chambers in the Mayeville District.
Mr. W. C. IJivcs, on a late visit to Cincinnati, was tendered a public dinner by the citizens of that place. He declined the hospitality, owing to the infirm health of his fit her, who accompanied him thither, and which required hie immediate return to the mineral serines of Virginia.

The shipments of this article are going on rapidly, and to a greater extent than we ever have noticed at this cailj' period. Three fiat boats, containing about a hundred and fifty tons, pressed in bales, left here on Thursday last; and about as much more is lying 011 the beach or warehoused, ready for shinnies Ten or twelve boats are

disappointed. Whenever any article runs
up above its real worth, it generally falls as much below it. The prices offered for hay at the tiver i, no doubt, fair for the grow er, and if wc were of that class, we should dem it more prudent to sell here, than to risk a loss or higher plorits in the lower market.
El&ur. This article row commands 0 50 In our market, and brisk sale at that. We can esc no permanent reason for this advance in the price of this indispensable article. It certainly canuot result from a scarcity of w heat in the country; for, taking every section together, the crop has yielded a fair average. The advance in the price, w e are inclined to believe, originates iu tho rage for speculation in the demand for early shipments which cannot long operate to keep flour at its present rates. Besides, the corn bids fair to produce a fair crop, and in that abundance the people have a safe guarantee from hunger, aa well an an assurance that they wiil not bo compelled to pay high prices for flour, unless they choose to do so.
