The season for cutting and securing the wheat and rye harvest, has again arrived. The extreme wetness of the spring, added to an unfavorable winter, have cut short these crops below an average. The prospect now is fair for securing in good order what may be on the ground the weather being dry and cool. The grass and oat crops promise well, and the corn never looked better, in this section. The prospect for potatoes is also good. So, with a tolerably favorable season, it may reasonably be expected that sufficient of the staff of life will be gathered to meet all wants at home, and some to spare to others.

We had the pleasure on Saturday last, for the first time, of an agreeable ride on Capt. Porter's Horse Boat, from this place to the mouth of the Big 3Iiami. It is a large and splendid boat and the entire satisfaction it gave us, both as to its movement and accommodations, induces us to add our testimony in corroboration of the many very complimentary notices it has received from those who
have had similar opportunities of forming an opinion. As evidence of its uncommon faculty for "going ahead," we will state that we left our wharf at precisely eight o'clock, having on board thirty or thirty-five men, and, perhaps, as many boys, and arrived at the 3Iiami, (a distance of over two miles) in less than an hour, including the time, we were moored on shoals and sandbars, which, probably, detained us 20 or 25 minutes ; and that too, in strong water ripples which, at times, almost
bring to anchor our best , and most powerful steamers. Had we been fortunate enough to have sailed clear of obstruction?, we have no hesitancy in saying that the distance would have been performed in twenty-jive or thirty minutes. This fact alone will enable the public to j udge of its movement between the two shores, where it is relieved from the pressure of the current.

"The commissioners, before they entered on their duties, took a solemn oath to relocate ("the countv
Eeat according to the provisions of the law. They went to Lawrenceburgh, and heard the speeches and misrepresentations of some of her mighty people; from thence they travelled over the county, viewed every site presented to them, and finally selected Wilmington as the future seat of Justice." The above is an extract from a 'very abusive editorial article in the Times, of the 27th ult., directed against the citizens of 3Ianchester, Jackson, Kelso, Logan, 3Iiller, and Lawrenceburgh townships, convened at the 3Ianchester convention. We make the extract in order to show the tact of the Times, at management or more toluntly, for misrepresentation. The commissioners, says the editor, examined all the sites, and then fixed on
AV llmmgton, leaving it to be inferred that they had given ! all parts of the county a "fair shake" for the county seat. Now what are the facts . Four of the commissioners, viz : 3Iessrs. Campbell, Cravens, Ricketts, and Land, convened at the time appointed by law, went through the county pretty generally, and then endeavored to settle on some point; but after several efforts, failing to select any, they adjourned to the 3d 3Ionday in 3Iay. At the time named, they again convened at Wilmington, where they were joined by 3Ir. Bramwell, and without further examination of the county, determined in favor of Wilmington 31 r. Bramwell, as we understand, giving the casting vote. This man Came from home no doubt, determined in his
own mind to vote for that place, and of course" did not care to see any other. Like the Dutch justice, he had heard one side of the question, which appeared very clear, but was fearful if he heard the other, it might muddy or alter his judgment; so he shut his eyes for fear he should see. Thus was the question decided. Now how stands the case ? Four of the commissioners examined all the sites, but could not determine in favor of either of them, and adjourned. The 5th one joins them at the second meeting, a perfect stranger to the people, their feelings, the present or probable future prospects of the county, and settles the matter without knowing any thing about it, save from ex-
parte information. Thus it will be seen that the letter of
the law, the rights, and feelings of the people of the county
were set at nought, and the seat of justice put at Wilming
ton by the vote of a man who did not, could not, from per
sonal observation, know whether it was the proper site or laot. We will do 3Ir. Bramwell the honor to say that
he only, of all the commissioners, possessed the discriminating power to judge of the local situation of the coun ty, without the trouble of examining it.
"7fte "People's Ticket." The "patriot" of the Times
places this imposing head over the ticket formed at W llmington. The idea, we suppose, intended to be conveyed, is that it was formed by the majority of the people of the countv no other construction can be put upon it. To
assist Jic in determining: whether the editor has not
cz-fmuci for his ticket, we will here give a stateniKfofthe political strength of the several townships, taken from the poll books of last year. Logan, 224 votes; 3Iiller, 194; Kelso, 1C3; Jackson, 121; 3Ianchester, 329 ; Lawrenceburgh, 323 making in all, 1354 votes in the 6 towmships which formed the 3tanchestcr ticket. The 5 townships which formed the Wilmington ticket, are Randolph, 3G7 votes ; Laughery, 320 ;
Union, lUO; Caesar Creek, 121; feparta, lbb making in jail 1167 votes 1 87 less than in the other tow nships. It may be argued that some of the voters of the townships first named, attended the Wilmington meeting, and will support that ticket ; but at the same time, no one (saving the "patriot" of the Times) will pretend to doubt but that the 3Ianchester ticket will get a few scattering votes below Hogan. This being the state of the case, it is not yet altogether clear thLt the Times has got the right heading to his ticket, We shall jef, however.
zens,) use their tremendous influence to defeat the
measure! Let the vote given to W alker, rlumer, &c. by her citizens, answer. When the citizens of Randolph petitioned the legislature to be set off in a new county, did the said junto defeat their wishes. I say again they did not. The petition was referred, in the senate, to Col. Pollock and others, and never reported on. The Lawrenceburgh members therefore had no opnortunitv to vote unon the Question. "But,

I am unprepared to say that such a pledge was given, but if it was, it should have been scrupulously redeemed. That it was not, should not be visited as a crime on the citizens of Lawrenceburgh now it would be unjust, illiberal. For the Palladium. Mestrr. Editors: As a patron and constant reader of your paper, I would ask the favor to occupy a corner, on the subject of the county seat question. As a citizen 1 feel an interest in its fair and speedy settlement, believing that its agitation must and will
have an injurious affect upon the general prosperity of the county; and was well pleased to see, in the early part of the Eeason, a disposition manifested to try the question, at the ensuing election, on its own merits, and put it to rest, that the attention of our
citizens might be directed to other objects. But latcrly I have began to doubt whether this desirable end will be accomplished. Very certain it will not, if the managers in and about Rising Sun and Wil
mington can prevent it. The formation of a ticket at 3Ianchester has changed their plans of operation, and set them to work to avert the anticipated result. From being clamorous in favor of Wilmington, and regarding Lawrenceburgh, as the only point they had to fear, they have veered round so much as to sav the people of Lawrenceburgh care nothing
about the county seat, out uesire uie election 01 me Manchester ticket to sustain the "mammoth bill." The object of this strange assertion is easily seen through it's a mere feint to divide and conquer. The citizens of 3Ianchester and others, opposed to the recent location of the county seat, are to be made believe that they will be saddled with the mammoth hill, if they vote for Gregg, Milliken and Tebbs; vhile below thev will have no question but the coun-
