The Brookville Indiana American, of the 29th ultimo, announces George II. Dcnn, Esq., of this place, as a candidate to represent this district in the 24th congress. The present member, Mr. Lane, vc are advised will be a candidate for reelection. We have heard no others spoken of with any certainty, and therefore presume that Messrs. Lane and Dunn will have the track to themselves, at the ensuing congressional election in this district.
Welcarn from the Louisville Advertiser, that the President of the United States, would leave the Hermitage between the 1st and 10th instant, on his return to Washington. His health had much improved.
The Kentucky Register, we observe, makes a little mistake, in giving the result of the late election in this State. No opposition nor administration candidate for congress was chosen at the late election because none was voted for. The congressional elections will be held in Indiana in August next. At present the delegation stands G administration 1 anti.
With this paper we close the publication of the laws, resolutions, &c. passed and ratified during the late session of congress.
Sickness. Seven hundred and ninety-eight persons are officially reported to have died of cholora in Montreal, Canada, in five weeks, ending the 18th ult.; some papers put the number as high as 1192. The mortality was the greatest about the first of August, since which it has gradually decreased. One hundred and fifteen died of the same disease in the city of New York, in seven days, ending on the 22dult. The city papers inclined to the opinion that the pestilence had then reached the height of its malignancy. Thq board of health of Quebec, report 620 deaths by cholera from the 7th July to the 14th August. At that time it had in some degree abated, but still
"was carrying off its victims at the rate of from GO to
70 per week.
few hay, in bales. The former articles are generally disposed of to our merchants for cash, or in exchange for salt, coffee, sugar, &c, and the latter purchased by river traders and shipped for the southern market. A few days since we counted a3 high as 17 flat boats at the landing, fitting and loading for the lower country. Six or eight of these were hay boats, of the largest class, and when laden, will carry between fifty and sixty tons each. We have heard it computed that enough to load one cf these boats was brought in in a single day, last week. In the way of improvements, the prospect is equally enlivening and cheering. Sundry large business houses are projecting, and others rapidly progressing to completion. A large number of bricks has already been made, and more are still wanting. Should the after part of the season prove favorable for building, it is believed the whole that may be made, will be required to meet the demand, even to a million or more. The branch bank will soon be in operation, and this too will give a spur to the already active spirit of improvements. The advantages resulting from such a state of things, are rapidly and videlyextending themselves, in the increased demand for produce, labor, materials, and in the advance of prices. We think we may safely affirm that at no place of equal population in the west is common laborers or mechanics better paid, or the produce of the farmerin greater demand. Few towns we venture to assert, can boast of a better assorted corps of mechanics. Cabinet makers, Chair do., Tinners, Coopers, Tailors, Shoe and Boot makers, Saddlers, Blacksmiths, Brick and Stone Masons, Carpenters, Bakers, Hatters, et cetera are to be found here; besides a goodly portion of professional men, and some, we believe, who do not profess any thing. But lest some may charge us with puffing1, we will close this article, without having told one half we might in truth say of our town, its business, or advantages.

Ohio Election. The annual election takes place in this State on the 2d Tuesday in October next. Governor and members of Congress arc to be chosen this year, and consequently some degree of warmth and interest are exhibited on the occasion. The present incumbent, Gov. Lucas, is a candidate for re-election, and opposed by Gen. Findlay both friends of the administration. The latter, however, is designated by the vigsy as the anti-Van Buren, office holders candidate, and consequently may receive the vote of the opposition. The candidates for congress are classed under the old political cognomen of administration and anti-administration, or what is modestly called tory and whig, and are likely to be sustained mainly with reference to their political predilections. The wigs, wo discover, notwithstanding the noise made, studiously avoid placing the elections on the ground of Bank or Anti-
Bank; no doubt believing that it would not do to
risk that question in Ohio. Even in the Cincinnati district, where one of the branches is located, the wig candidate for congress has deemed it proper to
say he is not favorable to a rcchartcr of the present
united States Bank. A list of the candidates for congress, in the sever al districts, is inserted in another column.

published to-day, that the directors of the Mother Bank have notified the stockholds, that the first instalment on their stock will be required to be paid over, at each branch, on the 10th November next; and that an election for directors will be held on the
day following. From this it may be fairly calcula ted that the bank will commence operations at far
thest by the 15th of the same month. The State's share of tho capital, we understand, will be in readi
ness at convenient points, about the 1st November.

Col. Webb, of the N. Y. Courier and Enquirer, applies the epithet tory to the Jackson party, with seemingly as little remorse of conscience, as if he xvcre a saintly politician. Such language comes with an ill grace from one who is not only entitled to the appellation oftory in every sense of the term, but has proved himself a traitor to the doctrines he first espoused and to his benefactors. Do owes his political salvation, as it were, to the Jackson '.party, and its confidence Und support in the hour of trial, this modern Judas would reciprocate by en
deavoring to fasten upon it the infamous name of
'tory. Webb and Duff Green were once the zealous supporters of the measures of the present administration, but having been made acquainted with Biddie's "Golden Image," they forthwith withdrew from the true faith, and sold themselves as his hirelings to perform the work which no others would do;
hence this tissue of slang and abuse of the friends of
the administration. The day of retribution is near at hand, when these devoted hirelings will receive their due reward. Their course is too reckless they are too regardless of truth and common decency to be-profitable servants or for manv of their assertions to gain credence among, even, "the honest of their own employers. Such men have their p ice to become the pliant tools of any party. State Bask Loan. Tho public will discover by the letter to the Editors from Mr. M'Carty, one
of the Bank Fund Commissioners, that tho first loan required by the Bank charter, viz: $500,000, has deen obtained at Ta reasonably fair premium upon the stock. This 'stock is redeemable after twenty and within thirty years, at the pleasure of the state; and tho amount of premium, 5,250 dollars will probably pay the expenses on the part of the stale, of tho engraving and printing the notes, the perdicm and expense of the commissoncrs and tho cost of transmission of the funds to tho state. Tho principal and interest arc payablo in New York. We consider tho loan an advantageous onof showing the good credit of our state, and the efficiency and ability ofour Commmis3ioncrs. It is the opinion hero that the Bank will bo able to commence business as early as tho 15th Novombcr next. Those who have subscribed for stock will probably have to untie their purses in about sixty days. The charter authorises the remaining bonas to bo sold, so ns to ho available in two annual instalments hereafter, on which there is little doubt that an equally good or; better,, premium may bo obtained, after tho money market shall again become settled. The full amount authorised to be loaned, by the state, is one million three hundred thousand, or so much as may be required (for the branches that go into operation. Ind. Democrat.
