Fro i fic IVe England Farmer. Brcfhe Jonathan? wife's advice to her daughter on the day of marriage. Now Miry, as you are about to leave us, a few words sem appropriate to the occasion. Althoughl regret the separation, yet I am pleased tht your prospects are good. You mint not hink that all before you are Eiysi-

an Fields Toil, care, and trouble, are the companies of frail human nature. Old contieclicis will 1)3 dissolved by distance, time and death'. E ve ry thing pertaining to this life h on the change. A wed cultivated mind united with a pleasant disposition, is the greatest accomplishment ina lady. I have endeavored iVo.i the first to tho present moment to bring you up in such a m inner, as to form you for usefulness in society. Woman was never maJe merely s see and be seen; but to fill an important spice in the great chain of na

ture, planned and formed by the Almighty parent of the universe. You have been educated to hibits of industry, frugality, economy, and neatness; in these you have not disappointed me. It is for the mm to provide and for the wife to lake care and see that every thing is done in order and season; iherefore,

let method and order be considered important. A place for every thing, and every thing in its place. A time for every tiling, and every thing in its time, arc good family mottoes. A thorough knowledge of every kind of business appropriate to the kitchen is indispensable, for without such knowledge, a lady is incapable of the management of her own business, and is liable to imposition by her servants every day. But in these things you have been instructed. You will be mistress of your own house, and observe the rules in which you hive been educated. You will endeavor, above all things, to make your fireside the most agreeable place for the man of your choice. Pleasantry and a happy disposition will ever

be considered as necessary to this important end; but a foolish fondness is disgusting to all. Let reason and common sense ever guide: these, aided by a pleasant disposition render life happy; and without these it is not desirable. Remember your cousin Elizi. She married with the brightest prospects, but from her petulant, peevish and complaining disposition and negligence, every thing went wrong; and her home became a pi ice of disquietude to her husband. To avoid this, he sought a place to pass away vacant time, where associated with those more wicked than himself he contracted the habit of intemperance, and all was lost and poor Elizi was thrown on the charity of her friends. Be pleasant and obliging to your neigh

bors ready to grant assistance when necessary. Be careful of their characters, and not readily believe ill report. Throw the mantle of charity over failings, knowing that

we and all human, are liable to err.

Abhor a tattler, and give no place to the

reports of such. However strong a provo

cation may be, never contend for the last

word.

Let your bible show that it is used. Give

no place to novels in your library. Let his

tory, biography, and travels be read, when time and opportunity admit without interfering with the important duties of your family. Be not ignorant of the events of the time being, therefore read some journal of the country. As to friends who may call on you never bo confused, nor in a hurry; treat them with hospitality and politeness: and endeav

your garden be the index to what may be seen in your house. One thins: more; the management of domestics. See that all things go right in the kitchen. Let every thing be done according to order. Never dispute with a servant in what wav a thing shall be done. Let your commands be promptly obeyed. Observe a mild dignity; but avoid all improper familiarity witli those who may be placed under you. Be never harsh and impetuous, but calm and deliberate. Reprove

when necessary with mildness and determination; but never make a long harrangue about matters of minor importance. Too much reproof, especially if delivered in a passion, or high tone of voice, is apt to lose its desired elfect, and produce reaction on the part of the dependant. Dignity, decision and condescension must be assimilated in

such a m Miner as to command respect. Undue severity will so operate on the minds

From Ike Cincinnati Republican. PROGRESS OF THE EPIDEMIC. Since the 12lh inst., says Dr. Drake, the Cholera has been rather on the increase. The number of mild cases continues smaller than in the month of June, but the number of deaths for the last two days, has been rather greater than for some time before. A respectable mechanic has just been buried, whose fito may instruct the living. Ho was taken in the middle of the day, on Monday, but continued on his feet and at work till night, when he sent for a physician. It was too late. The next day he died. The

ahyslcian believes if he had been called on

six or eight hours earlier, the disease

might have been cured, and I presume there is not a physician in the city who would not concur in that oninion. I men-

ion this case because the deceased was a

temperate and useful man, who had many

tl lends woo are just now returning from his '

grave. But other cases tending to the same point might be cited. I will mention one

or two of them. During the past week two

elderly ladies were seized with precisely the same symptoms, and treated in the same

manner. One began to tako medicine in

three hours and the other in nine. The

former recovered, the latter died 1 It may seem superfluous to be perpetually repeating the advice "resist the beginnings;" but as lives arc lost every day from not observing this ancient and useful maxim, it cannot be too often presented to the unwary. Indeed it is just as important to commence the treatment of Cholera with the beginning of the disease, as it is to have the engines at a house on fire, before the flames have spread through it. Delay in the latter case is conflagration in the for

mer death. The Cholera has raged from Pekin to

N. Orleans, among nearly all the civilized inhabitants of the globe, and it may be safely affirmed, that almost all we know of it, that is useful, might be summed up in the single fact That in the beginning it may be enred by almost any plan of treatment, while if it should be suffered to adranccy no

er to require this is," I thli.k, much more ob

vious than some of these which they have recently tho't of exercising; and its utili-
