The Cholera. The board of health of Cincinnati, report the city as clear of the pestilence no new cases having occurred for some days past. The Louisville Advertiser reports the disease as fast abating in that city. No new ciscs have lately been reported at Madison or New Albany, from which we infer the pestilence has nearly or quite left those places. From passengers who have just arrived from New Orleans and the Mississippi country, we have the most alarming accounts of the ravages of the cholera in the lower country. The deaths in New Orleans are stated to be as high as three hundred per day, and at Natchez, and other places on the Mississippi, equclly as large, in proportion to the population. We regret to learn that j several citizens from tin's county, engaged in trade to that country, have fallen victims to the disease. So great is the alarm and mortality on board the descending and ascending boats, that whole crews have left them and either returned home or scattered through the country. Ohio Elkctiox. We have been favored with a slip from the Monitor Office, Columbus, giving the following report of majorities in the several counties, save Allen, Henry, Williams and Wood from which no returns had been received. The votes of these counties, it is stated, will not vary the result, given below, one hundred. Jaclson. Clay.

The great struggle for the presidency is now over, and enough ascertained to say certainly that Gen. Jackson is re-elected. The contest was a warm one, in which each party put firth its strength, determined to succeed, at least, by all the means sanctioned by the constitution and the laws. The friends of the administration have prevailed, and whether the result is viewed as a triumph of principle, or merely of men, we hope to see all good and true friends of our republican institutions peaceably and magnanimously acquiescing in the decision the majority have made. The country has long enough been in commotion, and the
attention of the community diverted from years.

Pennsylvania. From this state we con

the election. Thirty-four counties heard
from, of the 53 in the state, give Jackson a majority of over 20,000. The other 19 counties will no doubt swell the majority to near, if not over, 30,000. Pennsylvania a doubtful state indeed!

fj5- Some person hailing from Greensburgh, Ind. notices the result of the election in Decatur county in a very blustering bragging style. Now, it is certainly understood that Indiana has gone for Jackson,
and he is re-elected by a large majority,
what would the friends of Mr. Clay say, were the friends of the administration to indulge in language like the following? "Greexsburgii, Nov. 5, 1832. "Dear Sir. The great struggle is over, and the victory is ours; we have beaten the enemv 154 votes in the county of Decatur. She has acquitted herself most gloriously.
The constitution, Henry Clay and the American system has triumphed over the votaries
of "King eto."

are induced to believe that Kentucky has

New-Orleans, October 27. The health of the Cirj. This topic of conversation has been more agitated within the last twenty-four hours, than we recollect to have heard it at any time during the ten preceding years. It is remarked that there
have not been so many new cases of Fever this week as there were last, but several very sudden, and some almost instantaneous deaths, without any prior indisposition, has
given a new turn to apprehension, and rumors are afloat that the Cholera has made its ap
pearance. Indeed several of the city news
papers have given currency to the report, and for ought we know to the contrary, they may be correct ; and though tho promulgation of the fact may be highly detrimental to oui just opening market, yet, on the other hand, it is better to know perhaps to anticipate, and as far as human foresight and moral courage can aid us, to be prepared for the worst. The alarm may at least, have the effect of arousing the city authorities to the necessity of prompt measures preparatory to" the hour of trial; it will put the unwary on their guard, and the public mind will be prepared for the emergency. So far, it may
be productive ot good results; but that a
few sudden deaths should give uneasiness
o the inhabitants, or prevent strangers who
may have business here from coming into
he city, is unreasonable, tor to our certain knowledge and to that of every permanent
resident, these things occur every autumn,
particularly to those of iiregular habits, and
are more frequent in seasons like the pres
ent, when the fever has been unusually ma
lignant. The Mississippi is about 12 feet
9 inches below high water mark. The ar
rival of several vessels, from coastwise and
foreign ports, that are now engaged in dis
charging their cargoes, and the receiving of
cargo, on board ot others, tor exportation, has given a lively appearance to the Levee, and business has made its annual commencement. Price Current.

Some people have such a wonderful itching to be called smart, that they do not scruple to filch from others what they themselves may lack in personifying the character they aspire to. We have been led to this remark, by seeing an anecdote communicated to the Statesman, as original, which we have often seen in our exchange papers. When it fir , appeared, the joke run upon aClayiie, now it is turned on aJacksonian. Perhaps this alteration is sufficient to give it
the original character, it assumes in the
Statesman, tho' we doubt whether the improvement would entitle the inventcr to a
