The Citizens were accordingly re-
iqusted to meet on the evening cf the
8ih inst. to take the subject into consideration. At the time appointed, a lare concourse of people assembled atthe church and proceeded to organize a society, and adopted the following constitution, viz: Constitution of the Ttmperance and moral Society of Rising Sun and its vicinity Whereas the improper use of int oxicating liquors has been found by experience to be the source of eviU of inculable mngnitude, alike destructive to th interests of individuals, families; and communities; and whereas the prevalence of this vice has such a fatal flicacy in hindering the. success of all the common means hich have been appointed for th moral and religious improvement of men; and whereas the various measures, which the tnendsof morality have adopted, though not altogether unsuccessful, have beun found quitu int ilFirienl to give any efl' ctual or permanent check to this desolating evil ; and whereas we believe some more vigorous means are evidently required, some system of instruction and action w hich will make a steady and powerful impression on the present and following generation, and u ill, in this wajj ultimately eiTeot a change of public sentiment and practice in regard to the use of intoxicating liquors; therefore the friends of domestic and social happiness, now present, resolve to form a society, and agree to be governed by the following constitution, namely, Art. 1.
