What have 1 ever done to you gentlemen, thit will justify your lending your aid, to injure the public interest, by turning me into ridicule, thus wantonly to outrage the feelings of an obscure individual? SATURDAY, MAY 5, 1827.

The Board of Justices, forming a court

to transact county business, will meet in

this place on Monday next. The Legislature of New York have refused to pass the resolution offered by the committee of the Senate, authorising

alive, and a like sum for the detection of

his murderers, if dead, on the ground that it would hold out too great inducements for false accusations, and thereby bring unmerited punishment on the innocent. Vrginia.--The elections for members to Congress do not take place throughout this state at the same time. So far as ascertained, but few changes will be made. Mr. John Randolph is elected to fill the place of Mr. Crump, who declined a re-election. Mr. Robert Allen is elected in the Frederick and Shenandoah district over Mr. Powell. Mr. Mer

cer has been re-elected by a majority of

233 over Mr. Thompson.

There is a kind of devotion in the actions of some men, which often times startles our faith, and taxes our credulity to determine whether they are, or are not doing 'that which their own good sense tells them is wrong. We make this as a general remark; but shall have no objection to any person taking it as directly made for them. The Editors of the Indianapolis Gazette, we are sorry to say, have made another effort at what they may call reasoning, to prove that they were correct. Here is a case precisely in point with our first remark. They assumed a position in the first place altogether untenable; to be dislodged from it, would be to acknowledge their fallibility; it is therefore concluded to dispute it- with us at any rate, tho' it should expose their incapacity for a close siege. Here we shall leave thctn for the present, entrenched, as they would fondly hope, with the interests of the West in front, and popular opinion in the rear, to attend to matters of more importance. We mav at some future day,

should the Editors of the G izette be restored to their wonted equilibrium, reason matters with them. In the meantime we would advise a forbearance in things calculated lo agitate the system quiet reflection is a sovereign remedy for such diseases. The receipt of the following letter has rendered the publication of "Mmy Voters' " address "to the voters of Dearborn cuntv,,, unnecessary, if not improper. At the time that article was handed to us, and a promise given for its publication, subject to our rules in such cases, it was not known, to the editors, that any objection would be made to its appearance, by the person on whom it would have the most direct bearinc; had we

find attempts at wit and humor, not always worth communicating to the public, as the intention of improving the knowl

From the Montreal Couraiit, of April 4. Horrible Outrage. It is this day our painful duty to record the most cool blooded and base nature that ever stained the character of humanity one which is without a parallel in this country, and which from its dastardly atrocity might hold a conspicuous place in the annals of a savage nation. On the evening of Friday last, about ten o'clock, as Robert Watson, Esq. of this city, was sitting in a room on the first floor of his house in company with the Rev. Mr. Mathieson, of St. Andrew's church, and

in the act of reading a newspaper, the

report of a gun was heard at the window,

and immediately the house was filled

with smoke. Mr. Watson started upand

exclaimed 4 What's that,' at the same time

placiiig his hand upon his riht side.

On first hearing the noise, Mr. Mathieson

Mr. Binns, of the Democratic Press, has published to the world a declaration of his political opinions in reference to the approaching Presidential election. To all who care any thing about Mr. Binns' political course, such a manifesto is very acceptable. That gentleman has a marvellous facility in putting on and off the wardrobe of party, and it is not easy to guess his future course from any consideration of the past. As he was violent against Mr. Adams in 1824, he now proclaims that he intends to be as earnest in his behalf in 1828. Such an intimation, therefore, demands an expression of thanks, and we, for one, thank him. The Platonic year will, however, come round, and in 1C29 Mr. Binns will be with '15 again Nosh's Enquirer,
