Extract of a letter to the Editors of the
New-York Daily Advertiser. Buenos Ayres, July 6, 1825.
Dear Sir, I wrote you some time ago.
stating that late advices had heen received from Rio Janeiro, informing that a strange disposition had been manifested by the Emperor, to declare war against this country, on account, as he alleges, of their clandestinely assisting the Patriots of Banda Oriental, or conniving at expeditions to be fitted out by individuals, with arms &c. for that
purpose also because the Buenos Ayrians had sent an army of occupation into Entre
Ilios, for the protection of that district in
case of any disturbances. This the Brazil
ians say is a mere subterfuge, the real inten
tion being to aid Lavalleja's party. This
report was m the tirst instance treated light ly, but has since assumed a more serious as
pect. Within a few days a squadron of
Brazilian vessels consisting of a rrigate,
Sloop oi War, three lings, and three uun
boats, has anchored near the outer roads,
some of the officers are on shore, but little is known of what has transpired. It has
been rumoured to day, that the answer of
this Government to these demands, (whatever they may be,) is, that they will not treat with an armed force; this no doubt, is to gain time, it is pretty generally understood, that the Emperor requires a relinquishment of all right of this Government to the Banda Oriental, or its interference in any way to his taking possession of it. That province however, is as much entitled to freedom and self government as that of Buenos Ayres. Whether the Provinces of Rio de la Plata, Peru, and Chili, Will unite in resisting this outrage, is yet to be determin
ed: if they do, the consequence may be the overthrow of the present Brazilian Government. Should this rupture take place, a Blockade of tills River will inevitably follow, which will most seriously affect the interests of the English and Americans, and involve some intricate questions of the law of nations: if they assrme the adage that "might makes right," the presence of some of our vessels of war would be very desirable, for the protection of our commerce, lias a party a right to blockade a river,

universal clamor of the people, and that they

moment in which they shall exact from him a complete satisfaction for them.

The aforementioned circular contains the
clause that the government expects to he in-
farmed by the respective provinces, of anv
error committed in the computation of the
population. We avail ourselves of this to
indicate that the province ot Buenos Ayres has Deputies in the constituent Congress at the estimation of 135,000 inhabitants, and in
the computation only 120,000 are stated.
The Horticultural Society of London has lately received from New South Wales a tine healthy hive of native bees. They differ materially from the bees of Europe, bcincj infinitely smaller, Sl like the Mexican, wholly without stings. The honey which they produce is said to be of exc ellent quality, and is distinguished by a peculiar fragrance; it is one of the few products of that singular country which serves as food for the natives.
Translated for the Boston Palladium from Buenos Ayres papers of Jidy 2. By a letter, dated la Plata the 4th 3lay, wre learn that Gen. Sucre and our Gen. Arenales arrived in that city on the 25th April, where they had been received with the greatest demonstrations of friendship and gratitude. The public functionaries of all classes, and a numerous and distinguished retinue of citizens, went out to meet those chiefs, expressing with unequivocal signs of respect and pleasure, the sentiments with
which they w ere animated towards them.
La Plata had already chosen the four
Deputies who are to represent that province in the Assembly of Representatives convoked at Oruro, by the Grand Marshal of Ayacucho, Antonio Jose de Sucre. The first question which will probably present itself far the consideration of that Assembly will be, whether the four provinces of Up
per Peru shah continue incorporated with the nation of the United Provinces of Rio de la Plata; remain independent, forming by themselves a state; or associate themselves with the Republic of Peru? We are pleased to observe that the decree of convocation of the Assembly decidedly expresses " that any intervention of the armed force in the

not perceptible until he was in the act of

How enviable is the situation of the New York editors! perhaps there is no portion of the community so highly favoured: but do they not deserve the attention and civilities which thev are constantly receiving? They

War among the Snakes. Travelling through one of the southern states, my attention was attracted by a singular rustling in the thickets which bordered the road, i stepped my horse to learn its caus; and -con discovered, at a few paces from the track, a rattlesnake of rather more than ordinary size, in a coil such as these reptiles always throw themselves into on the approach or attack of an enemy, exhibiting every vniptom of extreme rage, aid displays all those beauties for which its species are so remarkable when under the inlluence of pas-ion.
