PATRIOTIC SONG. At a dinner given in London, on the 7 th March, to the Spanish and Portuguese ambassadors, the following songuas sung: Arc "Scots zcha hac." Spain awak'd from slavery's trance Spain who spurned the yoke of France, Saw Napoleon's hordes advance, Flush'd with victory. Spain in native valor strong,
Backward drove the invading throng, Bold her sons, and this their song Death or liberty! and, are, as it were, enchanted with the beautiful appearance of what is here called the honey moon; but many of them before they have a month inhabited the island, find that what appeared to them at first a most resplendent luminary, is nothing but a phantom, a mere vapour of the imagination. Yet this island may be considered as the garden of pleasure, and the centre of all human happiness, in comparison to Bachelor's Island, which is the abode of vexation, the den of discontent, and the vale of misery. So! Miss Hectic died this morning of a consumption. She was no more than seventeen a fine girl! Ah! is she dead! Poor thing! What's trumps? ISLE OF MA 1 RIMOJVY.
The Isle of Mafrimony is situated on the
extremities of the torrid and frozen zones, and consequently the temperature of the air
must be very various and unsettled, as the bitterest cold morning has been frequently known to succeed the warmest evening. During the spring, this island experiences the most sultry heats, and this to so great an excess, that the heads of its inhabitants are
frequently turned, and there is, perhaps, no island rising above the surface of the ocean,
in which are found so many lunatics. The summers, however, are temperate and refreshing, and the gentle breezes that are wafted from the continent of Prudence, sometimas remove the evils which are occasioned by the violence of the spring. The autumn is a busy and disagreeable season, for then the mind of every thoughtful inhab
itant, is perpetually employed in the care of
their tender vines, in bringing their Iruit to perfection, and in finding proper market for tlu m : but many of their vines are frequent
ly destroyed in their bloom, by too tender a treatment, and still more are ruined b- the

ot luxury. 1 he winters in tms lsiana are horrible indeed; for howling and freezing winds from the dreary regions of the north confine the inhabitants to their houses, and sometimes to their beds. At this season the men grow fretful and surly, and the women loquacious, and scold immoderately. There is one thing peculiar to this island, (if we may believe what Voltaire says,) "that strangers arc desirous of settling there, while its natural inhabitants would be gladly banished from it." Whoever takes up his abode on this island, must, by the laws of it, connect himself with a partner, and such partnership nothing can dissolve but the death
ot one ot them, in wmcn case it nas irequent

Valuable Medicine.
THE subscriber respectfully informs the public, that he is in possession of a medicine,
which, if there are any such, justly claims the title of specific in curing Schirrous and Cancerous affections so far as he has had an opportunity of witnessing its effects, it has never failed when the disease was not very far advanced, or situated on some part difficult of application.

has instantly quitted this island, and return
ed to it no more. When strangers first come here, they are highly delighted with the external appearance of harmony between each person and their partner; but they no sooner make a settlement here themselves, than they find that the nocturnal disease, called by the inhabitants a curtain lecture, destroys all their felicity. Among the politer part of the inhabitants of this island, it is very unfashionable for two partners to be seen in the same company; and it is too common for one to connive at the other's dealing in contraband goods, though the laws are very severe against it, and punish the offenders with heavy tines and disgrace. Yet the law has no terrors for many. The arms of this island, by which it is distinguished from all others, are, a plain ring, or on a field sable, the supporters. Bacchus and Morpheus; the motto, misericordia mihi! and. the crest, a death's head upon an hour-glass. The usual diversion of these people is cards, with which both parties frequently try who shall first

A foolish fellow, when addressed by a man of rank, used to answer, " thank God and
your lordship.5' "How many children have you, honest man?" said a Grandee to him: "Four, thank God and your lordship."
Charlotte and Wcrter. A lady some time
ago took her daughter to a boarding-school, for the purpose of education, when, after the first salutations were over, the matron fixed her eyes on some worked-picture subjects in the parlour, and pointing out one more attractive than the rest, asked, 'What is that?1 'That, replied the lady of the school, is Charlotte at the tomb of VVerter.' 'Fell, I wow, (rejoined the the cockney) it is vastly beautiful ! Betsy, my dear, you shall rork Charlotte at the tub of Vater.

baffles the skill of the ablest and most experienced
of the medical faculty, when treafed in the usual manner with arsenical preparations. Respecting the composition of this invaluable medicine, it might be proper to state it is prepared from a veritable in a very condensed form; yet so mild when found in its native situation, as to be eaten by graminivorous animals, with impunity, as an article of food. From its action being confined almost entirely to the diseased surface, it is incapable of producing those disagreeable effects on the constitution consequent to the use of arsenical applications; which from the action of this mineral
on toe sound as well as diseased part together
with its general operation on the whole system
through the medium of the absoibents, must not
unfrequently produce serious objections to its use, admitting it to be a certain cure. Persons laboring under this disease, can have an opportunity of testing the benefits of this medicine, by putting themselves under the care of the proprietor, J. L JVatkins, who has imparted a knowledge of this preparation to Dr. VV LINDSEV; whose advice and attention can likewise be had when necessary. Their place of residence is Lawrenceburgb, Indiana. JOHN L. YV ATKINS, Late from Princeton College. Lawrencehurgh, July 15, 1825. 28 N. B. Many certificates cou'd be obtained from
persons who have experienced the salutary effects of the above medicine, but I shall only cite the public to the following recommendation from a physician who has had considerable practice in it. Hamilton, Butler county, (Ohio,) July 7, 1825. Having been for several years acquainted with, and in the habit of using the same remedy for Schirrous Tumors and Cancers, which is prepared and used by Mr. John L Watkins; I have no hesitation in pronouncing it the most certain in its effects in removing those affections, of aoy remedy which has heretofore been discovered; provided the disease be in a part of the body to which this medicine can be conveniently applied.
