some time longer, his pulse became more frequent, and his mouth and nose being irritated with spirits of sal ammoniac, he. opened his eves. "Warm cordials were then administered to him, and in two days he was so well as to be able to walk eight miles."
A. October, add the following details to those contained in the letters of the lOtb, relative
to the decisive victory just obtained by the Greeks: "The reports which the Ottoman ministry had circulated, of several advantages ob
tained bv the Captain Pacha, have been
suddenly succeeded by the most disastrous news.
Equally unfortunate with all his predc-
cessors, the Turkish admiral, in a fit of rage
and despair, has had tne temerity to attempt a second attack on Samos. In consequence, he set sail from Mitylene with the
Egyptian fleet, winch had lomed him: nut
he had hardly put to sea when the intrepid
Lanans appeared, and spread out his line with great ability in his manoeuvres. The
Musselmen, on the contrary, m attempting
to iorm, tell into dreadiui disorder, wmcn was increased' when the Greeks advanced
towards them w ith an intrepidity which was
admired by the European seamen, who were
present at the action. It wras ot short dura-
tion the barbarians shamelully took night, to seek refuge anew in the port of Mitylene.
But the brave defenders ot the cross arrived there as soon as thev, and in a few min
utes five or six Turkish or Egyptian frigates became a prey to the flames. The heroic
Canaris, alter invoking the name oi our ia
viour, threw himself into a boat to direct in
Derson the terrible operations of the fire
ships ; he himself set fire to three of the ships . 1 1 T
ol tne uaroarians. uThe Captain Pacha had arrived as - fu
eitive in the Dardanelles, having under his
l command one dismasted ship of the line., and
and it is said that the former lost five large
ships, and that the Captain racha has been obliged to run into the Dardanelles for safety. It is true that he has arrived here yesterday. On Saturday the prizes taken at ipsara arrived a motley group of fishing
boats. Lord btrangiord leaves tnis to-aay in the Malvina. 4tSince writing the above, I hear that the Turks lost two frigates, four corvettes, and
a great many transports, whilst the Greeks have lost twenty fire-ships."
